Is McCann this year that much better than Montero or Suzuki, especially where you could draft them? Mauer and Martinez seem to be holding their draft spots pretty well, but McCann is a bit off this year with the whole glasses thing, and Martin (the last of the four big M's) is also off. Every year we seem to have a few "bankable" catchers, but even those are highly suspect.
Catcher is and will continue to be a landmine position.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I think that the point I was making was in response to the person who said that he just missed out on the best FAs because of the timing of his injuries. My response is that the good players are always looking and probably finding talent, even if it is not their need of the moment.

There is no doubt timing involved (luck). Like you said there are only 7 bench players divided between Off and Def.
Of course being wise enough to draft and hold guys like Montero takes away a lot of the luck factor.
Now please don't jump on me- I am NOT saying this game is luck. I'm just sayin' ... there is an element of timing involved.
