Bradley says that Cub fans are idiots and that Chicago is full of hatred.

From a fantasy perspective, I would say that Bradley owners are full of hatred and that Hendry was an idiot for signing him.

Bradley says that he prays that the game is nine innings long so that he can go home.

A lot of us have coached little league and high school ball, if any of the kids would have said that, we know that kid would be home, permanently.

The first comment is born out of Cub fans riding him for not even coming close to expectations. Considering Bradley's past, it is a typical Bradley comment.

The second says a lot more about Bradley. While the Ian Kinsler's and Dustin Pedroia's of the world would rather be on a baseball field than anywhere else, Bradley would prefer to be off. When Bradley signs a new contract, such as his three year, 30 million dollar contract with the Cubs, I get the feeling that after the euphoria of signing for that much money is over, that he prepares for his three years much like a criminal entering a prison for a three year stretch.

The worst part is, that after his three year stretch is done, some other g.m. will, again, look at Bradley from the neck down and offer him another contract. Whoever obtains his services, that city will experience a sudden blossomming of idiots and hatred.

This hasn't been posted in a while, but I think is appropriate somehow:

"It's a great day for a ball game; let's play two!"

Ernie Banks

And about Ernie:

"He never complained about his team's bad luck or bad talent, never stopped playing the game with joy, never stopped giving his all, never lost his proud demeanor, and never acted like anything but a winner. He was a symbol of the Cub fan's undiminishing resilience. If he could be happy to come to the park each afternoon, then so could we."

Joe Mantegna
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I'm still pissed off about the Cubs signing Bradley.....who would you rather have, Bradley or Abreu? Abreu was cheaper and likely would have jumped at the offer Bradley got. Granted he's 5 years older but when you consider Bradley's apparent maturity level....leaps and bounds. There's nothing in me that can root for that selfish distraction of a wasted talent.
People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.

This is a tough one for me.

a) Milton Bradley doesn't play like he just wants to go home. He plays like he wants to win. He's a very tough out - even when he wasnt hitting he walked a ton, fouled off a lot of pitches, and pitchers face him with as much respect as anyone.

b) As a lifelong Cub fan and former resident of the North Side, I wil say this - the number of idiots joining the ranks of Cub fans has ballooned in recent years as Wrigly hs turned into a get drunk and yell type of place in the bleachers for twenty-something males. And I don't doubt that some of it is racist as certain fans on both sides of town hold their team allegiances based on the racist view that the cubs represent white and the white sox represent black.

Ultimately, I think this guy loves to play the game, and he's both a great talent and teammate --- under the right conditions. He has not yet learned the important skill of anger management, and I really think that is the only issue with Milton. He needs some guidance, he needs an epiphany from someone that has gone thru similar circumstances and came out a better person, maybe he just needs some intellignet friends. Like a bad marraige loaded with baggage, however, it might be too late for Milton and the Cubs - but I hope not. 3 for 3 today, carried the team to a win almost singlehandedly.

The guy is 31 years old. He should be guiding other young players/people not still "in need" of finding someone to guide him.

My favorite is him going after Ryan Lefebvre the Royals announcer. No wait, I think it is when he hurt himself during a pennant chase with the Padres flipping out on an ump at 1st... Or maybe it was him getting kicked off his High School team for a while or getting banned from the Indians clubhouse... blah blah blah so many things.

My favorite MB quote (which there is a decent chance is out of context but funny as hell):

“I want people to say Milton Bradley was a pretty good ballplayer and a pretty good person. Anybody who is going to stand between me getting there, then they need to be eliminated.”
