NFBC Charter Member Murdered In Chicago

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Wed Sep 23, 2009 5:15 am

I was alerted to this sad news by a fellow NFBC member and thought I'd post it here since so many of our guys know him from past contests. Lance Goebel of Manhattan, Illinois was an NFBC Charter Member in 2004 and competed in our live main event each year through 2008, missing this season to work in Washington during the election campaign. Lance was a great, great baseball fan and he really did love the NFBC, actually calling me to apologize this year for not being able to compete but he was helping a constituent on his campaign and was needed in Washington D.C.

I have not confirmed this is the same Lance Del Goebel, but I'm pretty sure it is. Our prayers and thoughts go out to Lance's family for this tragedy.

Good lord! I drafted in the same league with Lance in 2004 and 2005. Great guy. Class act.

I sincerely hope it is not Lance, but if it is I would like to add my families prayers to his family.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
