Lindy Hinkelman Wins 2009 NFBC Main Event and $105,000

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Wed Oct 07, 2009 2:39 am

Congratulations to Lindy Hinkelman of Creengreek, Idaho as he has won the 2009 National Fantasy Baseball Championship. Lindy had a DOMINATING PERFORMANCE in the NFBC this year as he led his Bob Enzyte team to a first place finish in Las Vegas League 8 and the overall title among 390 main event teams. Lindy won $105,000 in the main event alone. CONGRATULATIONS LINDY!!!

As you'll soon see today, this wasn't Lindy's only dominating performance in 2009, but it was among his most impressive. Bob Enzyte finished with 139.5 points to win Las Vegas League 8, 93% of the total possible points in that league, the second highest total ever from an NFBC champion. Bob Enzyte also finished first in the overall contest with 3,458.0 points, 88.7% of the available points, the highest winning percentage ever. Amazing.

This was Lindy's fifth season in the main event and it's his first NFBC league title and obviously his first overall title. In five previous seasons, he has won a total of $5,150 with three money finishes, not counting times when he cashed as a co-manager on teams. This was a season for the ages for Lindy and one I'm sure he will remember for the rest of his life.

Lindy joins our other past champions of the NFBC:

2004: Artie Rastelli, Hoboken, New Jersey

2005: Brian Oldenski, Middletown, New Jersey

2006: David DiDonato, Johnston, Rhode Island

2007: Terry Haney, Johnston, Iowa

2008: Robert Jurney, Dunkirk, Maryland

Lindy drafted 4th in LV 8. Here is his draft:

1. Albert Pujols

2. Matt Kemp

3. Alex Rios

4. Troy Tulowitzki

5. Chad Billingsley

6. Torii Hunter

7. Kerry Wood

8. Derrek Lee

9. Josh Johnson

10. Alex Gordon

11. Justin Verlander

12. Clayton Kershaw

13. Huston Street

14. Denard Span

15. Mike Napoli

16. Pat Burrell

17. Alexi Casilla

18. Billy Butler

19. Jonathan Sanchez

20. Jordan Zimmerman

21. Clint Barmes

22. Ian Snell

23. Clay Buchholz

24. Rafael Soriano

25. Carlos Villanueva

26. Andy LaRoche

27. Rod Barajas

28. Travis Buck

29. Miguel Batista

30. Brian Schneider

Please feel free to congratulate Lindy for his main event title here on this thread, but don't use all of your accolades up for him just yet. Lindy had a season for the ages and I will detail the rest of his accomplishments in other threads. But just so you know, Lindy is now our all-time money leader as he set a record this year by winning an incredible $241,300 in the NFBC!!! Seriously (if my math is correct). He now has won $246,450 in the NFBC to lead our money list.

We will interview Lindy shortly and post some of that on our boards, but more importantly Lindy will grace our first cover of Fantasy Sports Magazine that will be on newsstands before Christmas. We have a special surprise for everyone in the NFBC this year regarding our 21st season of Fantasy Sports Magazine and Lindy better do everything in his power to get very pretty for that cover in the next couple of weeks!! :D

Again, CONGRATS LINDY on a season for the ages. You dominated the gang this year. I'm sure we'll see you back in Las Vegas next year, trying to become the first two-time, back-to-back NFBC champion. Good luck to you and everyone else in 2010. Thanks all.

Tremendous season all around. This is the type of season we all dream about as fantasy players. There probably isn't many times when you can buy an insurance policy to pay you taxes, but I'm sure the bonus money will take away the sting of having to pay Uncle Sam. Enjoy the off season and I look forward to seeing you in Vegas.

Amazing all the way around. Congrats!
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
