Lindy Hinkelman Wins 2009 NFBC Online Championship + $75,000 Bonus

Lindy Hinkelman of Greencreek, Idaho did the unthinkable in 2009: He beat 389 teams for the NFBC main event championship and he also beat 599 other teams for the debut NFBC Online Championship. The incredible accomplishment netted him $105,000 in the main event, $41,300 in the Online Championship and a $75,000 cash bonus for winning both overall titles. He dominated the 15-team format and the 12-team format like no one has ever done before or maybe will ever do again. It truly was a season for the ages.



Lindy led his Joe Vandal March 30th Online Championship team to the league title with 113.5 points, an amazing 94.6% of the available points. Joe Vandal was in the Top 5 overall for much of the year and was second overall for the last two months before finally moving into first place in the final week and holding onto the title with 5,542.0 points, an amazing 92.4% of the available points.



Lindy wins $1,300 for his league title and $40,000 for the overall title. He also wins the $75,000 cash bonus, a bonus that was insured before the season and appeared to have little chance of coming to fruition with odds of 1:600 and 1:390. But Lindy not only beat all of you in both contests, he also beat those odds.

A total of 600 teams competed in our debut NFBC Online Championship league after originally shooting for 300 teams. The grand prize was increased from $20,000 to $40,000 and we finished with a total of 50, 12-team leagues. It was a great, great season and a format that is here to stay in 2010 and beyond. In fact, we are going to expand this online league format in 2010 with a grand prize that will dwarf this one. Stay tuned for the details.

Congratulations Lindy! Let me be the first to admit that I thought this was not possible. The $75K bonus sounded good but I thought no one had a REAL chance to win it. What is scary is that he only missed on two of his top 15 or so picks...Upton at 3 and C Jackson at 13. Kind of the reverse of his Main Event team where it seems like in-season pickups fueld his charge (Zobrist amonst them). I guess with 600 teams competing everything really needs to fall in place...draft, FAAB. Also getting Ubaldo in 20s is almost absurd.
