CreativeSports.com Magazine Draft Tonight

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Nov 02, 2009 10:20 am

Believe it or not, the baseball officially starts for most of us industry writers tonight with the first magazine draft of the off-season. This is a 15-team, 23-round draft for CreativeSports.com. I'm involved and have the third pick. Lawr, I don't even have any Cheat Sheets ready yet. Sheesh!! :D

I'll post the first few rounds here tonight if I survive. I have no hope!! This league doesn't get played out, but Lord Zola will let us know if his team is the best or not at season's end. If it's not, then this never happened!!! :D

Look for some results tomorrow to nibble on. Doughboys, thanks for the preliminary Cheat Sheets. I'll let you know if they helped me or not. Meantime, Tom is running three basketball drafts today and tomorrow. Which season is it again? I'm confused suddenly. ;)

Post your team, Greg.

I'll use some players for your mock team.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

It was amazing and everyone said the same thing. Today when we host our Fanball Magazine Draft, I'm going for offense, offense, offense early on.

My team sucks. Wait for the magazine to come out before killing me!!! :D

This was 15 teams, 23 rounds, fill your starting lineup in 23 rounds. I'd sure hate to do this for money this early in the off-season, but here goes my team:

C - Kurt Suzuki

C - Ramon Hernandez (there are no second catchers!!)

1B - Adam Dunn

2B - Brandon Phillips

SS - Jhonny Peralta

3B - Alex Rodriguez

MI - Luis Castillo

CI - Russell Branyan

UT - Jason Heyward

OF - Jason Bay

OF - Andrew McCutchen

OF - Vernon Wells

OF - Chase Headley

OF - David DeJesus

P - Justin Verlander

P - Adam Wainwright

P - A.J. Burnett

P - Randy Wolf

P - Carlos Zambrano (dumb pick)

P - Rick Porcello

P - Jarrod Washburn

RP - Heath Bell

RP - Brad Lidge

Go ahead, cut it apart! :D

Greg – I agree with you. The second tier of catchers looks to be ugly this year. Plays into my strategy of obtaining quality ones.

As for your team, Avg looks to be a killer. What SP were still on the board when you took Zambrano?

Post more rounds (at least 12) so we can see who you passed on to take some of your players. It will give us a better perspective to assess your draft, i.e. I can’t tell if V.Wells is a good pick or not. It would be based on what round you got him in and who you passed on to secure his services.

Trust me, this is as much an exercise in learning for all of us as it is for those watching the results. I'm still working on all of my projections and rankings too. I was dumbfounded in the middle rounds to see how thin catchers and even outfielders were. It will force me to change strategies going forward.

We have our draft this afternoon and Tom and I will gladly post results after that. It's time to get some mocks going and digest the results, good and bad. We're all allowed a longer learning curve in November, right? Enjoy.
