Live Chat With Greg Ambrosius Friday At 3 ET

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Feb 04, 2010 5:25 am

There's no way I'll produce the Nielsen Ratings that Shawn Childs produced last night, but I'll still counter with a fireside chat of my own on Friday afternoon!! :D I can't hold a candle to Shawn when it comes to talking about players or prospects or strategies, so zing some NFBC questions or industry questions my way and we'll have some fun with the discussion. I can and want to answer player questions, but just note that Shawn has won more money in fantasy baseball than I'll ever have the chance to!! :D

I have a few meetings tomorrow morning, so I have to do this a little later than usual. In fact, it's my son's VIP day tomorrow at 12:30 and I have to show the second graders what I do for a living and have my boy introduce his mom and dad. I'm looking forward to that and have a few Fanball magazines I can show them. I don't think I can possibly explain the NFBC to this youngsters, so I won't even try!!! :D

Anyway, that's the reason for the 3 ET Fireside Chat tomorrow. Hopefully folks won't be heading home for the weekend before then, but if so feel free to post a question in advance. I can type faster than Shawn and will answer them in advance and on the fly.

I wish I had more time to spend on the message boards, but as you can see I'm more behind the scenes than ever before. Part of it is because Fanball is also involved in a debut trade conference that is very exciting and taking up some of my time. Part of it is because I'm flying down to St. Louis a couple of times per month to finish up some of the back-end stuff we're working on. Part of it is because we're working on a few projects we hope to announce soon. And part of it is because there just aren't enough hours in a day!! ;)

Anyway, let's have some fun with this. I'll see ya tomorrow and feel free to load up questions in advance. Thanks to everyone for all your support this year as we are headed towards a record-breaking season indeed. Let's keep it going.

Many thoughts crossed my mind when I thought of you in front of a class room. I really want to say it it but I won't. LOL! OK I will. A beer in hand saying begin the draft. :D

Greg - I'm entering my first NFBC contest this year...the Double Play (online). I was browsing old forum posts and saw one from last year where you said that you'd like to keep the NFBC Online small enough that people still have a reasonable chance of winning. Is that still a goal? Personally, the bigger it gets (and the bigger the top prizes get) the more excited I'd be about it.

Greg how about 3 or 4 starting pitchers you like that are going past the 17 round or so.

Why is Joe Blanton going so late

It look's like the Diamond league has taken many of the ultimate players do you think the ultimate will survive this year.On a good note it looks like the Super's are doing very well.

C'mon, with all the phone calls I take during the day I can't believe there isn't anyone man enough (sorry Jules) to ask me the tough questions here. Bring it on boys (and girls). I'm ready to hit some home runs tomorrow. :D

All things considered, would you consider yourself to be working the "Dream Job"?

Now, any dream job that is worth $20,000 a year seems more like a nightmare than a dream. Seems like poverty level not dream level. But sometimes gimmicks must be used to make the message louder.

I'm just doing my job and not worrying about anyone else's. I'm having WAY TOO MUCH fun right now. If I only had someone answering the phone all day long I'd really be in a dream job. Damn, I can't keep up.

Last summer, you and Tom were in the position to set up a satellite Fanball office pretty much anywhere in America. You chose Iola, WI. Other than not wanting to relocate family, is there a reason you chose a place where a "busy night at the bar" looks like this:

The Northland is now called the Northland Ballroom down the road from us. Everyone knows that place!!! :D Why would anyone move from this rural area of God's country? ;)

Besides family, I also have an umbilical cord attached to Lambeau Field and it only stretches 60 miles. I must live here to make sure I attend at least six games a year in my favorite place in the world. :D

But honestly, it's a safe place to raise a family. I just DREAD the winters at my age now, but I can see how the small town life is good for my kids' upbringing. But once they are smart and off to college, Arizona here we come honey!! :D

Greg,

With the live Double Play being close to halfway towards the goal of 300 teams and not too many full leagues at this time, what is the plan for capping the amount of teams at each time and location?

Thanks,

Mark

Greg -- any idea if that clown that wrote the auction strategy essay for the NFBC mag is going to do a chat? I have a bone to pick with him.

Hi Greg,

A great add on to the current Free Agent system would be having the ability to export the free agent list into excel. We've asked for this the past few years. The STATS system was top notch in the industry with all the add ons and tweaks you helped to implement. Can we please add this one? It would help out a lot for the folks with multiple teams. I don't think I'm alone when I say that the only reason I don't add a team or two more is that Sundays have become insane. Anything to help Sunday out is a welcome addition. Thank you

Greg, question about week 1 in vegas. the last few years we have all drafted from the one giant ballroom. with the smaller attendance will we be moving to single rooms? basically the question is if we stay in the larger room will the tables be spread to cut down on over hearing picks from other tables?

as far as baseball specifically. you somewhat rail j hamilton in mag 1. where do you see him falling to in the draft? to me, for his upside, i have a hard time arguing Rios over him..... i guess its because rios at least stinks while being healthy. thoughts? any sneaky OF plays?

thanks

Yes. Position eligibility will be updated at the end of each day just like we've always done and this year with Friday moves you'll be able to make that switch on Friday as long as you have a legal lineup.

Greg,

2nd Base: Aaron Hill & Ben Zobrist. Fact or Fiction regarding their 2009 seasons?

Same for Outfield: Adam Lind & Andre Ethier?

Thanks. Rock On.
