ONE GUARANTEED SPOT Left For St. Louis Main Event

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:31 am

We now have 13 owners committed for the St. Louis main event on Saturday, March 20th and we would be more than happy to fill that one league up and concentrate on the Double Plays there and the Auction Championship. I'm not sure we'd be able to pull off a second full main event league there and anything after 15 would be contingent on that. We REALLY want to avoid any teleconference leagues this year in the main event if we can help it. I hope everyone understands.

So that being said, if you really want to draft in St. Louis for the main event please don't wait too long. I know of at least one team that is thinking about it now and while we don't want to limit the signups we also want this to be a great, great experience at Pujols 5 Restaurant. It's a great, great setup and should be a lot of fun.

Here's the current lineup card for this one:

ST. LOUIS

Pujols 5 Restaurant

Saturday, March 20th, Noon CT

1. Don Brady, Rogers, Arkansas

2. Brent Grooms, Tallahassee, Florida

3. William Cleavenger, Morganfield, Kentucky

4. Eric David, Boca Raton, Florida

5. Mark Grooms, Shelbyville, Missouri

6. Richard Bales, Lincoln, Nebraska

7. Dan Kenyon, Grand Junction, Colorado

8. Tim Stephens, Memphis, Tennessee

9. Dan Satinoff, Alexandria, Virginia

10. Robert Sargent, Vashon, Washington

11. George Puhl, Metamora, Illinois

12. Dan Holak, St. Louis, Missouri

13. Bill Strickler, Holiday, Florida

There's a lot of veteran NFBC owners on this list -- in fact, it's almost all returning NFBC owners -- so jump on in and have some fun. Next two to sign up online or contact me to hold a spot can fill this one up for us. Thanks all.

ONE GUARANTEED SPOT Left For St. Louis Main Event

I think it would be just great if somebody out of this single main event won the entire tournament...

Greg, you guys should consider getting more cities involved and holding just one or two drafts in those locations. I'm certain a big reason many people don't jump on board is the travel/time factor. Throw that cost on top of your main and some feel it's just too steep...

If you felt the need for whatever reason to create a Southern California event (San Diego, Orange County), I'd be more than happy to help coordinate and organize.

I thought San Diegoans made a monthly pilgrimage to Las Vegas.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

One spot left now. Charlie Gillespie and Brian Rudd of Louisville, Kentucky are going to go to ST. Louis instead of Chicago this year. We're glad to have these NFBC Charter Members back for a seventh straight year. Wow. Get that signup in Charlie!! :D

That would give us 14 in St. Louis. Let me know if you want the last guaranteed spot at Pujols 5 Restaurant. Awesome everyone.

Jon McGuffin Jon, we'd love to do more cities, but it's not easy. First of all you need to have enough staff to run a first-class event and thankfully we have staff at our corporate office in St. Louis to do this one. Then you need a great venue that makes it economically sound to do a couple of leagues and we have that at Pujols 5 Restaurant where I swear the staff has lunch 1-2 times a week. This one makes sense.

Our goal from the very beginning in 2004 was to bring the NFBC to you. Nobody else did a live event outside of Las Vegas and we started with Chicago, Las Vegas and New York. We thought we could continue to expand, but Florida threw rain on that parade. It proved that you just can't expand in any region and expect people to come. Build it and they will come, but sometimes you build it and they still don't come. So we have to take smaller steps going forward in our expansion. But we do want to expand and we may do that in football as well.

Stay tuned. Filling St. Louis with one league in early February is a good first step. We have room for a second main event there, but a full league is what I'm after so there are no guarantees after Team No. 15 steps up here.

Good to know. Keep me posted. Southern California I believe has a lot to offer in terms of facilities to accomodate an NFBC style. I get that we're going for class for sure.

Yes, we do typically don't mind making the pilgrimage to Vegas however there are so a large quantity of players that come out of this region, I'd be willing to be there are 15 or 30 of them who want to participate but don't do so because they can't get away for 2-3 days, gas, hotel costs, etc, etc. Even for us here, to play in the main is more of a $2000 expense when all things considered.

I remember during the planning stages for 2010 NFBC when I brought up the idea of St. Louis everyone kind of looked at me with that "Are you serious" daze.

The St. Louis event is going to be a lot of fun.

If we only get one league, the private Pujols room will be a great venue for a draft and the food will be great.

Greg, Geoff and I along with the rest of the Fanball staff, will be drafting our own league in that same venue on Wednesday night.

I'm really excited that NFBC is coming to my hometown and we'll make sure it's a great time for everyone involved.

Just FYI -- we do have two great casino locations in St. Louis: Harrah's & Ameristar and I believe the hotel will shuttle you there. I'll check on that.

The hotel rate is $79 and the Sheraton is basically attached to the Pujols venue.

Exciting stuff -- let's add a couple Double Play Live's to STL on Friday and Sunday!

It looks like we have our 15th team for the St. Louis main event as the tag team of Jack Haan and John Pausma are adding St. Louis to their back-to-back weekends. I LOVE IT!! Jack was considering a different option, but he made the right choice here. ;) With one full main event in the Budweiser City, now it's time to concentrate on the Auction Championship and the Live Double Plays. We have two DPs on Friday and it's time to sell those out. Great, great job everyone and take a look at that list of 15 for the St. Louis main. That is filled with NFBC veterans who know what they're doing. Nothing will come easily in that league.

Thanks all.
