Tom, I meant the 10 hours a day you work. That's where I was misleading. It's only 9 hours a day! :D

Maybe Gordon would like a winner takes all format, but I certainly do not agree with that. Winning your respective league should be every owner's goal, and there should be a runner up (and possibly even 3rd prize) for doing well in a field of 15. However, the NFBC distinguishes itself from every other baseball league in that you can win a HUGE grand prize. Why not put more emphasis on 2nd through 10th places? Isn't that more of an accomplishment than 2nd or 3rd in one league?

Hi Tom, how are you? I was wondering if Krause Pub. was recently bought out?

I have been reading the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards (Bob Lemke, Krause Pub.) for pretty much the 14 years it has been running. It is by far the best in the business for vintage baseball cards. It will be interesting to see how things will shake out, but I hope the "Bible" isn't touched!!! Aaron, Krause Publications was started in 1952 by Chet Krause and when he retired in 1988 he turned this company into an Employee Stock Ownership Program, allowing the employees to own the company. We were 100 percent employee owned from 1994 to 2002 and in 2002 F&W Publications bought us for..ah...a lot of money. F&W Publications owns companies in Cincinnati, Denver, New York, Boston, London, Dubuque and Iola! We are now Krause Publications, a Division of F&W Publications. Nothing has changed here as we still have 500 employees in a town of 1,100 and all of our divisions continue to excel. The sports collectibles industry, as you know, has been on a downward curve since 1991, but we have more than held our own and The Standard Catalogue of Baseball Cards by Bob Lemke will always be around.

By the way, Beckett Publications was sold two weeks ago, so nothing is sacred anymore!!!

Oh, by the way, Tom Kessenich is a multi-millionaire because of that buyout who still works 10 hours a day because he loves his job! :D Well, maybe I exaggerated a little, but you get the point! :D
Nope that's all true.
I hear Greg's wife did even better in the buyout.

Hey Tom, a few of us will probably be going to see the ponies run (well, trot) on Friday night. Not sure how those nags will feel about the denomination of your expense money, but feel free to join us! :D

Any thought of name tags with your board name on it - at least for the night before? Those GG lovers would know who to express their true feeling to.

Greg - Do you still have 15 or more in the Ultimate Draft and Ultimate Auctions? I saw yesterday it looked like at least one, maybe as many as three decided not to give credit card info. I was just wondering if you had more of the same as you tracked down the last few.

Pete
OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

Top Dawg was asking for opinions on first round draft busts earlier and it kind of laid there. I guess no one wants to show there hands, but I am too dumb to worry about that kind of strategy...my biggest pick for first round bust will be Beltre. No hard facts, but I just think he will have postpartum depression after giving birth to such a big contract.

Pete I'm still at 15 in the Ultimate Auction League and 16 in the Ultimate Draft League. I've been playing phone tag with a few guys. I have two question marks in the Auction League, so hold tight. But I still think we'll finish with 15 and 15.

Unless someone gets injured, I can't imagine a bust from the first round...but in terms of being overvalued in the 1st Round: Suzuki or Rolen; 2nd Round: Renteria by far (although technically he's being picked 36th).

Greg is working on that as we speak. He'll know the exact number of people he's contacted but I believe we're going to be set for 2 15-team leagues.

If something is available, I certainly am willing to have some type of name tag letting anyone know I am "viper".

Also consider chat names on the tables where we draft.

Still wish there was some indication on the "2005 NFBC Roll Call" thread, as to who is a returner and who is new. The silence from Greg on this request is deafening. A simple "no" would suffice if that is his decision.
