Fanball Draft Site - Downloading Lists

Post by viper » Sun Feb 28, 2010 11:20 pm

Somewhere in the posts on the new draft site being created, I recall that we will be able to download our personal lists rather than having to create them like we did on MDC. On MDC to create an entire 450+ man list was a lengthy task.

Could you post the format for these lists so we can get them properly formatted prior to the opening of the site?

Once the lists are loaded, can they be used for both mock drafts and real drafts?

The ability to import our own lists would be a nice upgrade.

Glenn Geoff can comment on these questions because he knows this setup better than I do. But yes, you will be able to import your own listings both for real drafts and mock drafts. In fact, there are two listings you will be able to click on: My Rankings and the default rankings. You can have your player lists shown either way. You can also click on any of the 10 categories and have players ranked that way, which is a very nice feature during the draft when you're looking for, let's say, steals or power or saves or strikeouts. It's one easy click and that category is sortable by last year's leaders.

You can manage your rankings in Excel (I believe) and then import your rankings to the site beforehand. Geoff can probably explain better than I've done.

[/QUOTE]Unfortunately, this isn't in the software right now.

Without getting too "techie" every player in Fanball's system -- just like it was with STATS and MDC -- is assigned an ID that helps the technology identify them.

Eventually we may be able to create an Excel template to help upload rankings, but it will take a lot of work to make sure that all players keep their correct IDs when they are moved throughout the spreadsheet. It's not as simple as just uploading a list of names.

So then you guys will have a "drag and Drop" method similar to MDC?

The big upgrade with the rankings in the new software is the ability to select which rankings that you want to use AT ANY TIME! It's been a huge issue in the past at MDC, where people had to upload their rankings 20 minutes prior to start of the draft, and if they didn't, they were out of luck.

The new site allows you to choose any set of rankings that you put together in the draft room itself. If you want to flip between your rankings and the default in Round 9 -- that isn't a problem. If you want to flip between your rankings and a different set of rankings in Round 29 -- that isn't a problem.

I am really excited about this feature, as we dealt with quite a few rankings issues at my old stop. Anything that makes my life easier and less stressful is more than OK with me :)

Oh well. I was hoping.

I hope the process isn't as cumbersome as MDC especially when you want to put in a player in the default 300s into slot 125. To set the ranking like I wanted them, it could take 3-4 hours with multiple temporary saves. I group all my hitters first and then group closers and then starters. I would have to move a player like Lincecum to slot 300 or so to get him ion the area where I ranked pitchers.

Clearly the sooner we can get access to the software the better. More critical is the FAAB process.
