Anyone care to share their fantays games resume? I'm curious what makes a fantasy gamer feel brave enough to try the National Championship? Are you a website tout? The person who brought Okrent and Waggoner their spaghetti dinner at the restaurant?
How long have you been playing? Share what you like... if you like. Why do you think you're good?

Well, I have picked up Fantasy BB in 1998 and have several consistent leagues in ESPN. Tried Yahoo and CBS, but liked the ESPN experience the best. I have won the following on ESPN since I started, with usually multiple wins per year. When My win % got to like 50% of the leagues I was in last year, I decided to move up and see if I could make some $$$ off all this time I spent...
1999 Fantasy Baseball League Winner
2000 Fantasy Baseball League Winner
2001 Fantasy Baseball League Winner
2003 Fantasy Baseball League Winner
2004 Fantasy Baseball League Winner
What makes me feel good enough to play? Well, I think I do a good job of adjusting strategies in the middle of a draft - I am always able to end up with good drafts. Then I can usually out manage throughout the year the other teams using daily transactions, but with this weekly approach, I am going to be less effective.

What happened in 2002?
Anyone want to share?
I have seen the Bad New Bears, The Natural, Major League and its sequel, The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings, Sandlot, Angels in the Outfield, Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, Brewster's Millions, Cobb, The Fan, Eight Men Out, For Love of the Game, Little Big League, The Rookie, The Scout, Mr. 3000 and Summer Catch.
I think I will be able to get Willie "Mays" Hayes (the Wesley Snipes version) in the 4th round as I project him to get the SB title.
I have gleaned something from each of these movies and will apply this knowledge to attempt to be competitive on the national level. I hope to have my movie ending this year.

Dyv I have been playing with one team per annum for over 5 years in an online league (fairly competitive one at that). I initially had mediocre sucess, but I have now put together 2 sucessive championships in a 14 team 12x12 league due to a significant change in approach. Most notable the book Money Ball and CFA studies (ie Statistics & Portfolio Mgmt) have led to that change. My preparation and scoring (pre-season player analysis) is notable different than any publication or other manager I have seen. I lived overseas last year, so I was unable to join this competition last year. I am now ready to see if this methodology stacks up against the best. I am confident it will.

Well, I have played long enough so that my first trade was picking up Robin Yount for a young OF with a low BA and was weak in RBI...(Rookie Barry Bonds).
I've played nearly every format. This year will be my first auction. I have had decent success with H2H, salary cap and straight roto leagues. I played the WCOFB in 2003. I did not finish in the money, but was competitive despite 2 glaring mistakes in draft stratagy. I did not feel like I was behind anyone in knowledge.
I wasn't planning on this at first, but I won $3500 on megasports.com. My wife (bless her heart) suggested that I use the money to play this league. My buddies at work are all jealous that I have a wife that said "sure, spend the money and take a solo trip to Vegas".
Sorry about rambling there. See you in Vegas.

I have not seen many of these movies, but I watch a ton of porn. I am hoping that most of you guys don't; otherwise I have absolutely no advantage over any of you.

OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

I was a tall athletic baseball player until steroids (no joke) turned me into a fat middle aged bald guy with small nads. I play fantasy sports, according to my Psychiatrist, because I like the feeling of power and control that I have over the younger more athletic Major League players.
I'm good at it because the antipsychotic medications I take have allowed me to control my feelings of rage toward my fellow competitors
and my desire to drop every player after an 0 for 4 or a blown save.
I will win this year because I will hunt down and kill everyone who is ahead of me!!

I've been playing since '96,
I won the sporting news midseason challenge and placed 2nd overall in the full season as well in '99, i'm usually in somewhere around 20-30 teams in various formats , I am looking foward to this as I know i will be facing others just like me which will make this a real challenge!!!

Actually, some of these are pretty damn funny
I'm enjoying the reading as it rounds out another dimension to this competition IMHO. The various backgrounds and 'what makes you think you can compete' are interesting. We all know there's a ton of preparation just as we all know that 10% of the owners will show up on draft day unprepared... that's the fun part, isn't it?

Dyv, do a google search if you want to size up the competition, it's lazy to ask why people think they are good. By the way is Dyv short for Dyv-ot as in a hack at golf???

I've been playing many years with more than a moderate amount of success. Want to play with the big boys to find out if I'm really good or just a sheep in wolf's clothing. My biggest claim to fame is drafting rookie Albert Pujols in the 27th round of a keeper league.

I'm not interested in what I can find by research... I'm interested in HEARING what people say and how they say it. You are welcome to consider it lazy to ask... that's nice, etc.
A hack in golf leaves a DIVOT, not a Dyvot... it doesn't come from Dyviding up a piece of pie or Dyversifying your investment portfolio or Dyving into a pool from a Dyving board. It's as simple as video games in the late 70's/early 80's only allowing 3 digit handles to be put into a game when you put up the high score. My name is Dave and I thought DAV looked stupid, so I 'dressed it up' to be 'DYV' and it's stuck through arcade games, MUD gaming through college and now fantasy games. Just an nickname...

I lost $1,250 on La-z-boy last spring, and thought this would be more fun.
I think I will be in the 90 percent prepared, so I have a 1/270 chance of winning it all.
I have been playing fantasy baseball since little league when I fantized about playing 2B for the mighty (hometown) Tigers (as I didn't have the arm to play SS or centerfield and lacked the Bat to play anywhere else).
As far as winning: I have NEVER won the one league that I have been since Baby Bonds was a rookie. So I'm overdue.
What's good have to do with it? I'm banking on luck.

I've been doing this in one form or another since like '83. Have had various skill levels in the leagues I have been in (mostly local) from college age/fraternity to local news and sports editors/producers. Have competed in draft and auction. I have won (more), finished last (least), in the money (most) and every where in between. I have gone from worst to first (good times) and first to worst (not so good). In an auction, I always have an extra couple of bucks near the end so that everyone has to hold on to their prime "steals" until the last possible moment. In drafts or auctions, I generally am the most prepared at the table (with the possible exception of last year in Vegas)!
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Nice post Dyv,
I got a little sentimental and found an old folder that I used in my first draft. I see that the first player I ever got was Terry Kennedy for a way over priced $34. It wasn't until the auction was 1/2 over that I realized the cap was $260, not the $280 that I had been using.
Needless to say I finished last my rookie season. But it did get me Vince Coleman and his 100 SB's in the supplemental draft the next year.
Strategy? Don't over bid for the players on your favorite team.
