First Weekend Draft Spots To BE Announced: Friday, 11 ET

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Mar 11, 2010 5:18 am

Okay, we are ready to move forward with the draft announcements of our main events for Saturday, March 20th. We will announce all of the leagues and all of the draft orders online starting at 11 am ET, maybe even a few minutes before that (because I have a meeting shortly after that). We will do like we always do and that's post them city by city and have some fun with this.

We have these leagues to announce:

3 main events in Atlantic City (and they will be full soonnn)

4 main events in Las Vegas (LV/STL combo included)

1 main event in St. Louis

I have already announced the auction leagues for that first weekend and should be able to do some of the Live Double Plays tomorrow as well. Stay tuned on that info.

We still have intentions of videotaping each of the eight first weekend main events, but it takes a lot of time to post them online and I don't want you guys to be delayed in your weekend preparations. But it will still be cool to see how the KDS preferences worked out after the random selections of each league and it will be something we'll have on the site for the rest of the year. So look for that after we announce the draft selections on the site.

So this is going to be a KICK ASS day tomorrow here on the NFBC boards!!! :D Damn, I'm excited just thinking about this. If you're wondering: Random selections are happening now for St. Louis and Las Vegas, with Atlantic City to follow this afternoon after we're full. Say a prayer now and then hope your KDS preferences work out.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME BASEBALL? :D YEAH BOY!!!

See ya tomorrow on the message boards for some draft picks!!

Aside from missing Vegas...this is the day I'll miss the most! Finding out who you'll get to compete against in your league, and from what slot. Damn I miss it! Next year for sure!!!

Greg,

Can we assume that the 2nd weekend leagues will be also the next Friday at 11am. It would not be fair for one set of drafters to have more prep time with their spots than the others... Especially weekend time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you mean even though I was the 8th person to sign up for St.Louis I might be part of a combo league? How does that even work?

You can hear picks made over the phone and a facilitator will run the draft board in each venue. At least that is how it was run last year.

If you are drawn for the combo STL-LV league, you will still draft live in STL with other owners but part of your league will consist of owners that are drafting live in LV. You will be linked together via a phone hookup with a facilitator handling the communications

Why not have the first 15 who signed up form 1 league and the rest be part of the "combo"?
In my mind the answer to getting them significantly earlier or later than previous weekend is not fair. I am all for the 2 weekend concept as long as one does not get an advantage within control. If you get your draft slot for an entire weekend and I do not you have an advantage. Anyone disagree?
No it would not. I am not willing to let my opponents in the main event have more prep time b/c the nfbc wants to get one more league filled. You have to set a deadline. Hopefully this is all hypothetical and is never an issue.

They will be done before then and if those folks have one extra day to prepare, so be it. The key is getting everything set in stone and done so that we can run the live events professionally for everyone. They will be announced before Friday of next week.
Please save me the condescending please. I should have been more clear about what the same time meant. A couple of hour difference sure. Going 2 different weekends is a great idea if you keep the playing field level. I am not suggesting you have to do it exactly the same time. I am suggesting that you keep that in mind and fully expect people not being happy if you do make it a significant difference.

As for the differences in prep time, to me it's a non-issue. We're talking an extra day or two at most -- weekdays no less.
Personally I’m not in favor of the two weekend thing. I know all the reasons behind it and I’m not looking to rehash any arguments or get anything started.I just don't care for it.

I do agree that both weekends should be treated as equal as possible.

As for the “especially weekend time” part of your statement. Not all of us punch the M-F 9-5 time card. But I do completely agree with you that we should all have the same amount of time and since that time clock starts on Friday at 11 for week one it should start on Fri at 11 for week two.

This is bothering me. 1 or 2 days is a big deal to me. That is several mocks more that can be done. If you think you will be giving out the news before Friday next week why can we not see the week 1 spots today if you are drafting them? That seems fair to me. To sit on them seems unfair.

I know it's not much more time, but it is more time and that creates an uneven playing field however small you may think it is.

Opps, mis-remebered. Doesn't look like you a are pulling names today. My opinion still stands. Same amout of time should be granted for each week

In a perfect world, we would have all the leagues full by now and drafted at the same time. However, this is not perfect and the organizers are trying to balance making the classic more popular and pleasing us all.

I may be in the minority, but I do not see an extra day or two as such a great disadvantage, if that is what it would take to make the leagues full. We cannot just say "let's KDS" when the leagues are not full.

On the other hand, the second weekend has the bigger advantage of drafting later (knock knock...imagine if a top pick goes down between the weekends?) so the playing field is more than even.
