There are always SP that come into rotations. Elite ace-types? Not often, but solid ones. ...and they don't platoon like a batter. They are either in the rotation, or are not in it.

i'm wondering if his quick pace helped caused a panic? if he's my facilitator in NY, I might have to bump pitcher up a little
this is "classic"....the facilitator aided in the SP run.
you like that one!! we did finish our draft 10 rounds ahead of the other leagues. 10 rounds. that is ultrafast.

Gekko, First time I have posted, but read the threads all the time. One thing about you I liked. You are always talking sheet. But for some reason everytime you do bad you have a excuse. You just lost 100 points in my book. The Draft flow should never throw you off your game always have to adjust. Last year wasn't it the Baby this year the draft flow and the Moderator. What will be your reason next week? The chair was not comfy.

the cliffnotes...
1. SP run was ridiculous
2. I had to scrap my original plan
3. I drafted offense while others drafted pitchers
4. I drafted a competitive team
5. Draft was ultrafast

We also had a so called suicide drafter.
Lincecum
Greinke
Sabethia
C. Lee
4 of his first 6 picks.

The SP run looked exactly the same as my recent Sat. league draft where Matt Garza, Jered Weaver and John Lackey go in the 7th round because there are no top starters left.

The pace of our draft was sick. It started right from the begining. I had the 9th pick. It was my turn to make my 1st pick about 15 seconds into the draft. I knew who I wanted, but I took almost the full minute on my 1st pick just to finish crossing out the 8 names that were picked already. It was also the norm for the ends to make both picks in 2 seconds..."We take twidle dee and twidle dum, next...." I'm sure #2 and #14 more than once was thinking "Geez, you could've taken 15 seconds". More than a handfull of times I took my whole minute just to take a little break, take a drink, and catch up with the picks, trying to make sure I didn't miss anything. I've never been in such a fast draft before. There were 2 reason for this as far as I can tell.
1. One hell of a group of owners. I'd say the average time spent per pick was about 5-6 seconds. I know I took more time on each pick than most. Everyone was on their game. they all know their stuff. This league is gonna be a bitch.
2. The facilatator really kept it moving. I'm not sure how the guy with the stickers was getting them up on the board so fast either!

I went back and checked our draft in St. Louis. We had 19 SP's drafted by the end of the 5th, and 10 just in the 5th round alone, including Kershaw, Gallardo, Hamels & C. Lee.

Regardless of the run on starters, the pace itself can throw you off your gameplan. I was in a draft 2 years ago and we finished an hour before the next closest draft. most others were only around round 20 when we were done. It doesnt give u a chance to weigh your options.
Hey Mark, no excuses. If he was there he'd know exactly what you're talking about. I'm a pretty laid back guy and I like a nice laid back draft pace. Sort of watch the draft unfold. There was no time for that yesterday. I wouldn't say I was put off by it, and it's certainly no excuse. But normally there's time to think through your next few picks based on who you take next. You know what I mean, thinking things through like "If I take this guy, then I can come back and go with A and B the next few rounds. Or, if I go a different route here,I can come back with so-and-so next round" There was no time for thinking things through like that. It was "what do I need most, who's available, who's falling to far, and pick." Move on.
Maybe it's just me. But that's how it went for me.

He didn't panic. He sat back and said I'll wait one turn, because i don't want to jump here when I'm not ready. Trust me, I understand it completly. I was there, and on more than one occation I thought about taking an extra minute by letting a pick go. I probably should have in round 9 when I yelled out "Posada" with one second left
