ALERT - POODLES_SHUTDOWN

Post by Gekko » Mon Mar 22, 2010 11:57 am

JUPITER, Fla. -- St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols got an anti-inflammatory shot Monday for tightness in his back and is expected to be out of action for the next couple of days.

The three-time NL MVP missed a week this spring because of lower back pain he described as feeling like spasms. Pujols returned to play in five exhibition games before being pulled from the lineup against Boston.

"He received an MRI today and then an injection to put him over the hump, make him feel better," Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said. "He's day to day. We'll see how he feels on Wednesday."

Anyone else seeing him fall to the mid/late first round this coming weekend? Reocurring back injury. MRI. Shot. SHUTDOWN.

How do those with the #1 pick feel now?

I was taking ARod with the number 1 pick anyway so it has no bearing on me.

Silly, silly, silly. Big over reaction. Take a look at the guys history. Was drafted in the third round two years ago because of a bad elbow and put up the best numbers in the game. Give me him right now with the first pick, hands down.

All I can say is that I ordered a Pujols jersey last Friday and it is arriving tomorrow. I'll be wearing it to the draft in Chicago and taking my seat at the 1 spot.

Second time this spring he's been shutdown. this time resulted in an MRI and then a shot to kill the pain to see if he can stand it and still play. not a good sign at all. if he can't stand the pain, expect a lot of missed regular season games. i imagine a single swing can reaggravate the injury.

if you have a top pick this weekend, do yourself a favor and exercise due diligence in checking out this injury beforehand.

I have to agree with Fast Money.I grabbed Pujols with #9 pick in '08 and got a lot of gasps and more than a few raised eyebrows from those at my table. He helped go on to win my league that yr.If he drops past #1 and falls to me,I'll be all over him.The guy is a horse and may border on supernatural!!

Is this a repeat thread from like 3 years ago?? I believe it was Doughboys, or someone I can't remember who, who said "Every year there's talk about Pujols being injured.. and every year he's fine. He has the opposite problem as other players - where they downplay injuries, he overemphasizes them" - or something to the like. I wouldn't be too concerned about him. I do think there is a major case for Hanley this year with the #1 pick with SS being so ridiculously weak, though.

this isn't just lip service trumpeting up an injury. maybe he got an MRI because he's actually fine. Same thing with the shot. He's really fine, but he wanted an extra shot just for the hell of it!

it's just a matter of time before every player breaksdown. perhaps this is the only warning (before draft day) that Poodles is going down this year? for anyone that selects him, just don't come back later and say you weren't warned.

[/QUOTE]I understand what an MRI is, and about what a shot means. I understand the pros and cons, whether real or perceived, about taking Pujols. But I appreciate your concern.

i think that 1st round in new york will be going so fast that when albert falls to mark- he will have to skip his turn to collect himself. the guy next to mark better be ready to yell out " give me albert"

I’ve always thought that the ‘birds on the bat’ logo is one of the best in baseball. Now I will never wear that jersey to a game and I wouldn’t be caught within 10 miles of Wrigley with a Sux jersey on :D ;) :D

the cubs need to hate the cards- hate. st louis is a small town and they have won about 20 championships since your last one. i e-mailed henry: dear dumb ass- if you offered a guy like soriano 130 million to suck- why not offer albert 260 million to actually be good. plus- your cub nation already owns his stupid shirt. heck- the twins just paid 180 million for a dh in 2 years. the sox already have andrew jones so we are even.

Pujols jersey just received (working from home today). Pujols jersey now on.

45 bombs minimum. 80 according to Doughboys. Love it.

Albert Pujols (back) returned to the Cardinals' lineup Wednesday.

Pujols underwent an MRI on his tight lower back Monday and it's safe to assume the results showed no significant damage. He always tends to scare us around this time of year but should be fine for Opening Day.
