On-line Draft League 1

Post by Plymouth » Sun Mar 28, 2010 6:05 am

I just thought that I would take a few minutes to share my thoughts on what it was like drafting on-line this year on the new NFBC.Fanball site.

First off I was a little confused and had to call Geoff to find out how to get in to the NFBC.Fanball draft room. I had done numerous mock drafts on the site just to get used to the feel of the new beast but getting into the draft room for the Classic draft was totally different and I was not prepared for that but once I had that nailed down about an hour prior to the draft I was ready to go.

When draft time arrived we had to wait on 2 owners who were not yet there for what ever reason and I think we waited about 5-7 minutes to get that straightened out. Once the drafting started it went very slow with almost everyone taking their full allotment of time (90 seconds) and I remember looking at the clock when we were in round 10 and we were 2 hours into the draft and I am thinking, my God, this will take 6 hours. But as we got later in the draft the pace picked up for what ever reason. It still took us almost 5 hours to do the draft. We had numerous stoppages, some because owners changed their mind or picked the wrong player or panicked or what ever. These got to be frustrating because here you are having crossed out the player that was drafted and he gets put back on the board and another player is picked. It appeared that no one lost connectivity which was a pleasant surprise. The Commish was right there and if you pushed the Commish button he was all over it in no time, a great job there. Matter of fact I think our Commish did a great job running the entire draft, he was on top of everything so a "big thank-you" for that.

The site still needs some tweaking.

1. The clock and chat need to be visible at the same time.

2. The scroll history on top needs to be redone to show at least one complete round and I am more interested in seeing who was drafted then who will draft next. The drafted player in that scrolling bar was hard to read, maybe some of the colors could be adjusted.

3. In that same scrolling bar, the position of the drafted players left a lot to be desired. Not sure what was going on there but in many cases it listed "res" like it was listing the drafting teams position on the roster versus the "qualified" position.

4. I think it would be nice to have a "skip" button so that if it is your turn and you are not ready that you can use that versus getting the next player on the list but then again if you don't hit the skip button it could still pick the next player on the list if need be.

5. I would prefer to see players listed by last name versus first name.

6.I am not sure if there is any way to check to see if everyone has a legal roster before the draft ends and that would be nice.

All in all I have to say that the draft went much, much better then I expected. I am a fan of MDC and like their set-up for the most part, but I think the Fanball site can be very nice with some additional tweaking.

I was wondering about one thing though, how come the on-line draft gets no breaks after rounds 10 and 20 like the live drafts do? I assume it is because it is hard to regain control of everyone but a couple of breaks would be appreciated.

So bottom line on on-line main event drafting? I liked it and hope that it remains an option for anyone that needs to use it in the future. I know that I would not have been in the main event the last 2 years if it was not there for me. Thanks.

I drafted in the online 3 and liked everything besides where the clock is located. I waited a little here and there but overall it was awesome. I would have rather been in Vegas but that is because I love to gamble.

I also drafted in Online 1 Classic. I must say the commish did a great job responding to all of the problems. I agree with you that the timer must be posted where you don't have to scroll. I would also love to see that ad deleted and perhaps replaced by a bigger queue and another clock. I know these comments probably should have been placed in the other thread about the draft rooms.

I also agree that it was a bit frustrating that some people waited until the end and then sometimes their picks had to be backed out. However, I still thought the draft was a lot of fun. Good luck this year.
