Free Agency Opens For All Leagues Tonight

Post by Hard Heads » Tue Mar 30, 2010 3:25 pm

In my Shawn Childs league when I pull up Free Agents there is no Green Bid button and it is a 30 round FAAB league but there is one in the 1300 NL Only league.

I've only skimmed through this thread so this may have already been mentioned...

Is there or will there be anyway to track only certain players we like and view by weekly stats? With last year's STATS interface, we could checkmark each player and then view only by those "checkmarked" players (realize it may not be a priority but it's a feature that is useful for the season).

Hey Greg,

I would also like to see MI & CI added to the positions when sorting through the free agent list. As it is now you have to go back and forth through 1B and 3B if you need a CI and 2B & SS if you need an MI.

As it is now you have to go back and forth through 1B and 3B if you need a CI and 2B & SS if you need an MI. Correct, this and many of the other suggestions on this page are being addressed now by the IT team. I saw an email from John at 3:49 this morning to the staff about changes we need to work on today, so I know John was burning the midnight oil on our FAAB changes.

Kudos to KJ Duke as well because he went through the entire FAAB process last night and gave John a detailed synopsis of what upgrades are needed. John already had most of those on his list, but he appreciated the detailed email that comes from the players. The posts on this thread can be helpful, but what KJ did previously with his suggestions and what he did last night is the most helpful tool for John and his staff so far.

As John mentioned, we needed to get the FAAB live on Tuesday and the enhancements are coming throughout the week. It's possible that all of them won't be done by week's end, but John knows exactly what we need in FAAB and we'll get there shortly. Thanks again all for your suggestions and we'll contiinue to improve this process throughout the week and season.

I don't think it hurts to put KJ's recommendations out there for all to see. John and his team has this and they will prioritize this list today in our 10 am meeting. If you have anything else outside of this list that you'd like to see, email me at [email protected] and we'll add it. Otherwise, if you see it here then we're likely working on it and will be working on it at some point.

Thanks again KJ.

Functionality:

1) Team FAAB balances need to be listed on the page with free agent bid lists. Wide open space to the right of bid boxes would be ideal for showing FAAB balances for all 15 teams (with my team balance highlighted). This one is critically important !

2) When sorting a column the entire page should not reload, only the player list itself. The view and pulldown menus also should not change upon a sort. Currently, when sorting on a pitching stat column it switches to the default view (batters), away from the current page which makes it impossible to actually sort on a pitching stat column.

3) Within one particular bid list, we need to be able to change the player being dropped for each pickup. The list should default to the same drop as the first one within a list, but we need an edit option to change the drop for any individual player pickup - as was the functionality with STATS.

4) Add option in the "Stats" drop-down menu to show 2009 stats (although year-to-date 2010 stats still should be the default).

5) The "Position" drop-down list also needs to show MI (combining all SS and 2b) and CI (combining all 1b and 3b).

6) Get rid of the popup warning box when deleting a bid list. No one likes popups and it isn't necessary. STATS initially put in a popup warning - we asked them to remove it and no one missed it.

7) Likewise, if I copy a list then try to delete it - I get a popup that says I cannot delete the list until I save it. Another time waster - why do I need to save a list that I want to delete anyway ? No popups!

Formatting:

1) Bid button should be right next to player name – the real estate between player name and bid button makes it hard to visualize that you’re placing bid on the correct player. (Another minor point; perhaps narrow the height of the bid button so it isn't as tall as the line ... as is, all the buttons run together visually).

2) The button reading “ADD CONDITIONAL BID” should be shortened to “COND. BID” and the column narrowed to fit.

3) Most columns on the page are too wide, making data hard to read. Better to have a narrower overall page than exaggerated spacing.

4) Too much vertical space above free agent list. Please tighen spacing within headings and transition spaces. This is a major problem throughout the site – exaggerated spacing looks artistic but is not functional when you are analyzing data. The huge ever-present NFBC header takes a 1/3rd of a page itself – none of this is user-friendly, particularly when setting lineups or entering bids.

5) Heading that says “player listing” should read “FAAB” or “Free Agents”. We can see it’s a list of players … but “player listing” is non-descipt.

6) Do not show “UT” under position eligibilty for batters except those who are “UT-only”. Every fantasy player knows that any hitter can be used in the UT slot – listing it that way just clutters the page.

Stat categories that should show on both the FA lists and team stats pages:

Batters (in this order)

GP, H, AB, AVG, R, RBI, HR, SB, KO, BB, OBP, SLG

Games played

Hits

At bats

Bat avg

Runs

Rbi

Hrs

Stolen bases

Strikeouts

Base on balls

On base pct

Slugging pct

Pitchers (in this order)

App, IP, ERA, WHIP, W, Sv, K, BB, K/9, BB/9, HRA, GS

Appearances/ games pitched

Innings pitched

Earned run avg

Walk+hits per IP

Wins

Saves

strikeouts

base on balls allowed

strikeouts per 9 ip

base on balls per 9 ip

home runs allowed

Okay, here are a few tidbits from our IT department:

The Free Agents page is LIVE and out there under "Stats" and "Free Agents"

We are working on some performance enhancements that will help the initial load of the page. The current layout and performance are a direct result of feedback we received in Las Vegas, so thanks to KJ, Shawn, RT, Quahogs, KOQ and others who talked with John out there.

We have added a statement to support the coming performance enhancements - but it will take some time to finish all of this.

In addition - the Set Lineup page has been corrected for IE - and we have taken the browser detection down. We do not have any outstanding issues with IE.
I hope they are still working on this page because having to wait for the page to load when you go from hitters to pitchers is very annoying;

Great work by KJ!

Nice work by Greg and the team to get this all set right. One note, and I am SURE this is being taken care of and can't be like this durign the season, but:

The biggest and most significant issue is the 7-12 second load time whenever you click free agents or change positions. A lot of people have multiple teams and FA's on Sunday take long enough, I can't even imagine adding this load time to it. Also, a lot of times you want to make a late change near the deadline, this load time could really impact late injury news or bid changes. Not to mention it is maddening.

John told me and KJ last night that: Currently, the task of displaying the entire list of players without paging is creating a bottle neck in loading the page, but we have a solution for that, and we hope to have it implemented before the end of the week.

So, does this mean that we will not be able to set our lineup for Week #1 until Monday (assuming that this Sunday's game is Week #0)? Might be okay for this week, but hopefully that is not the plan for the entire season! Thanks ...

Greg, we need to see player schedule for the current and the following week, at a minimum.

Right now the only schedule visible on the lineup page is Sunday's game - which doesn't help much when setting a lineup for next week.

On the free agency screens are the 5 hitting and 5 pitching categories all we are going to be able to see? Any chance of getting all the standard hitting and pitching categories out there? Also, can % owned be made a sortable option? Thanks.
I am a bit confused as to why this is even up for discussion as last year we could look at week 1's schedule all the way to week 26. As of right now I am not even able to view the schedule that starts on Monday April 5th. That being said and I believe I saw it asked earlier when will we be able to set our lineup for the following week? Assuming this Sunday night game is week 0, when can I set my lineup for week 1 cause as of this morning I could not do this.

Like Shawn and KJ, I am peeking in all the time.

But, I know there are some folks that don't have that luxury. Some will also go on extended vacations. This really is normal on most systems that we can look ahead and make adjustments for future weeks. It is a no-brainer that it should be a function for the NFBC.

I was kind of frazzled when I read that some said it was an unnecessary feature and almost lost it. It makes zero sense not to have this function cause people do need it and don't need to worry about finding alternate ways to set lineups if they happen to be gone for the weekend.
