Let's say there are 2 runners on base and 2 outs! A batter comes up who hits in order before the pitcher spot. This is the National League.
Quiz: Based on the information above, why wouldn't the batter be automatically walked to get to the pitcher at bat?
Well, Pelfrey and the Mets chose to pitch to Desmond in this situation instead of waiting for Mock to come up next.

Get him out, the pitcher leads off the next inning and more than likely you are up an out before the "lead-off" hitter bats.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Still why risk it?
Here we go again....Pelfrey against Desmond....runner on third, 2 outs
Although, now they would pinch-hit for pitcher.
When its earlier in the game, it makes no sense to me why even pitch to him with base open

Pelfrey probably walks Mock anyway. It is the Mets.
