Nate Ravitz/Glenn Colton Is Week 1 Classic Winner

Post by Tom Kessenich » Mon Apr 12, 2010 3:50 am

Congratulations to Nate Ravitz and Glenn Colton who took the top spot in the NFBC Classic last week with 3,595 points.

Big weeks from Vernon Wells (.350-4-7), Jeff Francoeur (.476-2-6) and Paul Konerko (.316-3-7) led the way at the plate. Mark Buehrle won twice while Jon Rauch and Trevor Hoffman combined for six saves to lead the pitching staff.

Congratulations again to Nate and Glenn and good luck to everyone in the Classic this week.

Nate Ravitz is no stranger to success in the National Fantasy Baseball Championship. In 2005, Ravitz not only won his league title, but finished sixth overall in the event, cashing a cool $6,250 for his hard work.

So when it comes to understanding what it takes to bring home a championship in this illustrious event, Ravitz is as well-versed as anyone in the competition.

This year, no one got off to a faster start than Ravitz and his partner Glenn Colton. The duo’s team totaled 3,595 points last week to top the NFBC field after one week.

The big week featured some unexpected surprises, Ravitz said.

“Obviously getting four saves from Jon Rauch was huge – especially since Jonathan Broxton got none,” he said.

Not only was Rauch a pleasant surprise, but Ravitz and Colton also were pleased with the offensive display they received from some of their power picks.

“We rolled the dice a bit on some power guys with warts – Konerko, (J.J.) Hardy, Wells,” Ravitz said. “So far, so good.”

It's fun to go right to Overall Standings each day and see several owners holding down the top spot during this second week. Nate and Glenn led most of Week 1, but this week we've had Doug Cassidy for two days, Mark Srebro and now Eddy Betancourt. Eddy was a football guy his first few years with us and jumped into baseball with a bunch of buddies a few years back and got hooked to baseball again. Glad to see Eddy in the top spot overall, but it's a loooooooooooooong ways to go Eddy!! :D Congrats and good luck.

The past couple of seasons we were able to look at the overall standings for each individual scoring period.

Ex. For period 3 my overall rank is 435, while my YTD rank is 415

Can we get this sort capability? ....... Not a priority.

[/QUOTE]Yes, we need to add overall period scoring to list the weekly winners. I'll get this done.

This is as good a thread as any to honor another new NFBC member who is leading one of the overall contests. I like it when new leaders emerge. Let's give it up for Michael Cortese, who was a late addition to the Sunday, March 28th Auction Championship at Citi Field and is now leading all 135 teams in that contest. David Deterra had held the lead for much of the last week, so congrats to Michael. Good luck all the rest of the way.

Donald Haworth is leading the NFBC Online Double Play, Mark Srebro leads the NFBC Main Event and Michael Camporeale leads the Live Double Play. Good job through two weeks all.

I must be blind. Did the Week Two High Point winner get announced?
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
