Wednesday Chat Has Begun

Post by Tom Kessenich » Wed Mar 09, 2005 7:00 am

All right, we've hit the middle of the work week, we're still aiming for our 300-team limit and we have a lot of folks watching us and still trying to decide if they want to join us. To that I say ABSOLUTELY. Come on aboard and have some fun, but don't delay too long. Those final few spots will be sold out so if you're sitting on the fence now's the time to take the plunge and join our fun event.

So now let's have ourselves another daily chat. As always, the floor is open to whatever you guys want to talk about. So have at it.

Tom,

What are your thoughts on Jose Contreras? Any rumblings of any arm problems? I thought that having his family life stabilized he might flourish, but with a couple of rocky spring outings I am rethinking things...

I'm not a big Contreras fan. I think most of his problems are mental. He has good stuff, but he's never been able to put it together. I think he's too risky to count on for fantasy owners.

Tom - Is Pujols over his foot problem? I just developed the same thing in my right foot and at times I can barely walk, let alone run.

I think he should be avoided in the first 10 picks (when I pick, at 11, I believe is the perfect spot for him :D ).

Pete
OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

Tom,

Who would you rather have on your fantasy team - Dave Roberts or Alex Sanchez?

Tom - Similar question: Rollins or Nomar. You must use your round 2 pick. Either or neither.

Roberts. I don't trust Sanchez; too many memories of when he let down the Brewers.

OK, Roberts or Ankiel? :D

Seriously, which Cub goes first - Prior, Zambrano, or Wood?

Tom,

If I choose to use a laptop at the draft, can I do either of the following to supply power?

1. Run an extension cord back to the outlet in my hotel room (if it's on the same floor).

2. Bring in a John Deere generator

Easily Prior in my opinion.

Prior, Rollins, Roberts, Deere.

I agree about Prior but injury issues and that horrific bullpen will hurt all three.

Speaking of closers, I hope Dusty makes a decision before our draft. Will it be Hawkins, Borowski, or Dempster?

And Tom, is Mike Adams the man for the Brew Crew? I heard good things about Capellan but he's looked awful.

I think it will be Adams to open the season. Whether he keeps the job all season is the big question. Capellan is still young and I love his upside. But he's not ready to be put into a prominent role just yet in my opinion.

I would hate to live on the difference, but I would go Zambrano, Wood, then Prior. More of a gut call rather than a stat call...must be all those injuries.

Tom, do you think Bottalico has enough left to provide any comfort as a potential closer to the Brewcrew?

I doubt it. If he makes the team I wouldn't be surprised if he got a shot at some point since I'm not convinced Adams can handle the job all year. But my expectations for Bottalico are extremely low.

Kinda like my expectations for the Brewers.

Oh, I don't know. They could surprise. I think third and second are going to be disasters, but I think you could do worse than Sheets (as long as he is happy), Davis and Capuano.

It is a rare thing for pitchers to thrive AFTER they leave the Braves (I know Schmidt certainly did but it took a few years), but Capellan can sure bring heat. He really could use a little time in AAA to season a bit to turn himself into a pitcher rather than a thrower.

If he keeps going the way he's going I probably would. I don't think he'll go for less than $20 if you want him.

Schmidt, Santana, Unit, Prior, Schilling.

What kind of league on Reyes...NL only or Mixed?

NL only - Yes.

Mixed - No.

When are the Brewers going to trade Sheets to the Sox so he can get his Hudson/Santana deal? And join some real baseball.
