Will anyone have much free agency $$$$$ left by the end of June or maybe even May???

Here is a story that burns my backside. EY2 has been in our free agent pool in Chicago 1 main for a couple weeks. I've been monitoring his situation, and when to pick him up because we project a bit short on steals.

Last week I get some news on Getz, so I put a higher bid on him than EY2 and get Getz as a backup MI. I TOTALLY missed the news on Sunday that EY2 had been recalled even though I was on the computer most of Sunday afternoon. Leading off and getting steals, he would have been the perfect compliment to our team.

EY2 goes for $1 in our waivers.

Couldn't...stinking...believe it.

I tried to get him in my Super League but Glenn Lowy out bid me.

He wasn't available in my three 12-team leagues.

I think the Rockies have to give this guy a extended chance to leadoff and prove himself. Also the move of Cargo to fifth makes more sense because of his power and that he doesn't walk much.

To give some perspective to the Gekko hype - he was available in our DP league and I was the only player to bid on him. Now granted in this league Marc is the runaway leader in sb's already - so the need for young's speed was not there.

I can use the speed myself.

One thing is certain - he'll likely go for a lot more this week than he did last week just because every league has at least one owner desperate for steals..

1. i have plenty of speed

2. we are talking a 12 team league, where there are plenty of bats on the waiver wire

3. i pegged EY's chances of getting a FT gig at maybe 10%

my prediction. avg winning bid (15 team lg) for young this sunday = $475. i'm bidding at least $400. (i hope my leaguemates are reading this )

You are right of course Marc - I think a lot of guys were thinking the same about ey last week. I'll admit as the guy who drafted Young (and dropped him) I was surprised that I could have gotten him for a buck last week instead of the 61 I spent to get him back on my roster!!!

He was worth a speculative bid to me for that team last week, but his worth to "that team" isn't worth much more than I bid on him originally.

He would have been a 2B and speed stopgap for me until Roberts & Crisp return. Even with those two out (who I was counting on being my team's #1 & #2 SB contributors) I still have 10.5 SB league points, so I'm not too concerned about steals. As far as a stopgap for Roberts, I still have Kendrick and with EY being thrown back into the pool and losing any contribution from him this week, that's one week of replacement value at MI lost, one week out of only a few that are needed.

I also just don't believe cheap speed is worth $300-400-500 bids, especially cheap speed that's not even guaranteed a job. The more positions you utilize whose primary contribution is speed, with little or no contribution to power or the other cats, the more you put your team at risk.

Just ask the Borbon or Rajai owners how happy they are using an 8th round pick for those SB's.

You can probably ask the Morgan & Pierre owners too.

Of course for teams that are really hurting for steals or have a real need at 2B or MI, his value is greater.

Again, I obviously believe he has value (I picked him up in several leagues last week, and as we all know tried to pick him up in more), but I don't like to pay the extra triple digits for hype.

[/QUOTE]I'll tell you this....with all the hype going around about EY, along with the fact that two of the three players I was debating in this thread on whether EY should have been thrown back into the pool last week are from MY LEAGUE (with you being the other...thanks by the way), I'd be pretty shocked if I get him with what I'm willing to bid on him for that team.

...and as long as we're being open about bridge selling, how about you let us know how many $400-500 bids you made on Smoak last week.
