Here, I'll get Mark's bluster started for him.....

"At least $400!"

castro= 4 sb's in 9 attempts in DOUBLE A! i am guessing his "speed" might not transfer. nice to see the cubs throwing in the towel this early- but when you get crushed by the pirates it is time. time for the sox the give up also- but it is funny to watch ozzie try and figure out why we can't win doing it his way- so that may take a while longer.

With Street going out on a rehab assignment Monday, I expect Corpas bids to be tempered.

He's going to downplay Corpas as he's clearly just keeping the seat warm for Taylor Buchholz when he comes off the DL.

i've taken the week off from the boards. haven't even looked at them till now. it is the weekend, right?
there won't be any battles between Glenn and I. moreso, i suspect glenn will be getting me a Christmas card for (what many say) "increasing the value of EY2" just enough that glenn wasn't able to get him!
haven't you guys learned that the best FAAB pickups are the ones for a couple bucks? the ones that go for hundreds almost never workout.
with that said, $300 secures Castro and $250 secures corpas!! REEEEEEEEEEEV UP THOSE FAAB ENGINES!!!

Unlike EY, who I said $300-500 bids would be a major overpayment for a one category player who had no guaranteed job once Hawpe comes back (we'll see what happens Monday), Starlin Castro's been handed the job and has superstar talent.
$300 would be a bargain. Unlike Smoak & EY, here's where you are more than justified in bidding the $500 you tried to sell the other two for.
The couple dollar bids are the way to go and the bids in the hundreds never work out huh? Does Mr. Gekko have a significant interest in Mr. Castro and trying to subtly keep the bids low... or has he suddenly decided to turn over a new leaf of honest analysis and transparancy of interest.
Good luck getting him Mark...I can totally understand why you're trying to depress his value.

He'd probably be a real nice upgrade if you had a bum like, let's say, Uribe, manning your SS position. I would definitely bid big to get him in that case.

Glenn [/QUOTE]Glenn - Don't spend a lot of your day trying to figure out who I want. You'll be wrong 100 out of 100 times.
As for Castro, I would set his updated FAAB value at $550 after last night's performance. 6rbi in first game. Highly touted player. Plays SS. MUST GET FOR SOME OWNERS WHO NEED MI HELP OR WHO ARE MISSING BRIAN ROBERTS (LIKELY OUT THE YEAR
)
Was this post more of what you expected?

I don't believe that any of these hype posts will impact anyone who has a plan (whether they are in jest or serious). This is not a keeper league. If anyone wants to blow their FAAB budget on Castro, go for it. But, it would smack more of desperation and be a high risk move.

Won't be long before Castro is hitting SECOND in the lineup.
"I've never seen a debut like that," Piniella said.
"Today was an exceptional, exceptional day," manager Lou Piniella said.

"The Cubs recalled their top prospect, Starlin Castro, from the Triple-A to serve as their starting shortstop. The move has resulted in Ryan Theriot’s shift to second base and the Fontenot/Baker platoon to the bench. Castro just turned 20-years of age in late March and at this point will likely benefit the Cubs most for his defensive prowess. As for fantasy impact, he is an excellent contact hitter (90% of the time this year) with an improving batting eye though he is not likely to walk much more than 8% or so of the time. Note that he is not a base stealer – 69% career success rate and 44% of the time in 9 attempts this season. Instead, I think of him as perhaps being a Placido Polanco who can steal 5 to 10 bags, maybe 15 or so home runs at his peak, and hit over .300. Keep in mind that thus far he has been predominately a groundball hitter at 50% of the time while hitting fly balls just 31% of the time. So do not break the bank trying to get him. At this age his power is not fully developed and it is possible he may add loft and power to his swing. For this season he could be something like a player Cubs fans are sure to remember – Rey Sanchez, just with greater long-term upside."
You paying $550 for the second coming of Rey Sanchez??

would appreciate any advice - in my tiny 10 man lge, I dropped Yunel & picked up Uribe
here are free agents:
Pennington
O. Cabrera
E. Aybar
Scutaro
Desmond
Renteria
Castro
Do I go w/ the rook? I was leaning towards Scutaro or Aybar.
Any input is greatly appreciated. Thx

Ha... The other two players you touted as $500 "values" are really lighting it up....Smoak struggling below the Mendoza line & EY glued to the bench with no position to play. Amazingly you didn't bid $500 on either of them or $400 or $300....or.....did you even bid $1?
I think the "opinions" the sheep should avoid is yours.
