Injuries and Minors News

Post by Glenneration X » Sun May 16, 2010 1:13 am

The boards have been a little slow recently.

I thought I'd throw out some news from last night on several fronts that should affect how many view their fantasy rosters on FAAB Sunday for discussion.....

Andre Either - Fractured pinky (DL?). Any team with Either loses a player that is putting up triple crown numbers. Even if he is able to play through it, how will it affect his production? Since I have him on no teams, I'm thinking they may have to amputate (shrug).

Max Scherzer - Demoted to the minors. I have Scherzer on a couple teams & I've convinced myself this is a good thing. At least I don't have to keep throwing him out there for beating after beating. After his last start, he claimed to have found a flaw in his delivery (arm slot). Maybe he can correct it in a few weeks down at the farm and come back the pitcher we thought we drafted.

Huston Street - Setback. Those of you who were expecting Street back in a week or so, think again. Those who bought Corpas last week are smiling right now.

Brad Lidge - Setback, back on the DL. Those of you who bought into Lidge going right back into the closer's role, think again. Those who bought Contreras on the cheap last week (I got him on one team, but I have Lidge on two) are smiling right now.

Aroldis Chapman - Beaten up for the third straight start. While still throwing 100mph, he still has no command. Unlike Strasburg, he's unlikely to be called up in June after the Super Two timeframe. With him pitching like crap, Leake pitching like a stud, and Harang & Bailey seemingly having righted the ships, is Chapman even worth keeping rostered on a fantasy team at this point and taking up a valuable bench spot? I'm going to be thinking about that for one of my teams today.

Justin Duschcherer - Scratched from return start last night. Surprise! This guy ends up on disabled lists from shaving nicks. At least he's decent the 25 innings a year he's actually healthy.

Scott Sizemore - Demoted. Not big news in itself since I'm sure most fantasy owners of Sizemore have long since stopped thinking of him as a MI sleeper this year. The big news is Carlos Guillen will be manning 2B on his return from the DL in a couple weeks. Those who dropped Guillen in the past couple weeks probably won't be happy with that news. Those who picked him up on the cheap AND those who picked up Brennan Boesch on the cheap are probably very happy right now.

Good job Glenn. I do have Chapman in my NJ main and starting to think is he worth a roster spot.

How about Juan Uribe just keeps hitting and leads the Giants in Rbi's.Speaking of Leake this kid can pitch and have him in a few leagues.

If Johhny Gomes can get atbats he will hit a bunch of homers and a monster shot last night.

Not much at 2ndbase if you need a free agent but soon Aviles and the Theriot will be eligible.

I missed my chance on Contreras last week as i had Putz ahead of him and only bid 8 on him and didnt get him in any leagues.Great job by all who got him on the cheap.Travis Snider is going to be a stud but will it be this year,he's just 22. ;)

Got Either. In the Main. In the Auction Championship. In the Live Online.

Hopefully he comes back quicker than Gordon. I will start drinking now. You just cannot replace that kind of production.

Of course, I will get Guillen back and soon can start him at second base. YeeeeHawwwww.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Eddie - if the reds can fire the worst manager in baseball, then maybe Gomes can get the AB's... I agree 100% get this guy 450 AB's than 30 bombs will happen in 2010 for him. He can rake!

Fun post...

I had Ethier last year and he was streaky but when he was hot, what a stud! Didn't get him this year in any leagues... disappointing... Could not agree more with Dr. Glenn, I think Ethier should have the pinky amputated and put on the 60-day DL!

Corpas- definitely some positive news for his owners with Street only making it through 5 pitches the other night. Unsure how many more days/weeks this buys Corpas owners, but a $100 to $200 bid for him is looking a little more worth it. He got a save last night and should stay in the closer's role for at least another week.

Props to whoever (whomever?) picked up Contreras on the cheap last week.

M Aviles hitting 2nd in the order and will be 2nd base eligible soon- two more positives for his owners.

Boesch- no doubt he will come storming back to earth but enjoy the ride as the OF job is his until he cools off.

Chapman- I saw him drafted as early as 14th rd in one draft. Who knew Leake was the one to get?

You can stick a fork in Street and Lidge.

Good news for Street owners. Groin injury, not shoulder. I'm sure they will be conservative with him, but it's probably only an extra few weeks.

Chapman- only dropped twice in live events and picked up twice in two others for decent amount of money for someone who does not look to be called up anytime soon.
