Stuff And Junk
It didn't happen at all in 2009.
It didn't happen in 2008 either.
Yet, in 2010 already, it has happened three times.
'It' is a pitcher losing a shutout to a home run with two outs in the ninth inning. It happened yesterday to Jake Westbrook. It had happened previously to Ervin Santana and Ricky Nolasco.
You think the Yankees have a good offense?
There is a team that has not five, not 10, not twenty, nope, they have 50 more extra base hits than the Yankees. More than one a game more than the pinstripers. That team?
The Toronto Blue Jays
Alex Gonzalez, Jose Bautista, and Vernon Wells all already have 10 home runs.
Gavin Floyd has a 1-7 lifetime record against the Kansas City Royals. Signifying, that he is now a bad enough pitcher to be pitching for the Kansas City Royals
Brian Wilson has saved four of Barry Zito's victories.
Jonathon Papelbon has saved four of John Lackey's victories
Leo Nunez has saved four of Nate Robertson's victories.....
Leo and Nate's mom's wanted me to let you know that
You know how announcers like to say, "that trade worked out well for both sides"?
Javier Vazquez and Melky Cabrera just told them to fu** off.
Max Scherzer and Edwin Jackson are telling them to shut up too.
Curtis Granderson and Ian Kennedy are mum.
The Rays got rid of their under-performing sloth, only to sign a semi-sloth in Hank Blalock. Wonderful. I do applaud the Rays for throwing millions to the wind with Burrell's contract. The Indians and Mariners should do the same.
Watching Hafner, Griffey, and Burrell leaves me yearning to see a Mike Hampton or Micah Owings at bat.
Three 2b eligible players are closely grouped together in the A.L. categories of hits and total bases. Robinson Cano, Dustin Pedroia....and Alberto Callaspo. Callaspo has more rbi than both Cano and Pedroia.
The A.L. maybe trying to change their image. They have eight players with double digit stolen bases.
The N.L. has two.
Andre Ethier. His name is Andre Ethier.
His last name has become the most misspelled in baseball.
The name is Ethier.

His name might be spelled "Ethier" but it's pronounced "Ow! My pinky!"

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

You're not alone, Wayne. It has sometimes gotten past the editors at ESPN.Com and Yahoo. Being close to 'either' has something to do with it, since that is always the misspelling.
Interesting, in a dull sort of way .
He needs a nickname.

Hi Dan, innerestin' as always....Callaspo (like Quentin) another former DBack that shoulda never got away.....I remember thinking (when they gave Byrnes $30 mill after career yr) that that was a contract they'd regret. Not like I'm the baseball nostradamus - that was just obvious to anyone....not in DBack mgmt
now they're paying him to drink beer in a softball lge
ah, what a life, eh Byrnsey?!
you mentioning Burrell got me thinkin' of bad contracts....you are rt, what in the hell would a speedy, young team like the Rays want w/ a guy who might lose a footrace w/ Benji Molina
agree on boring old has-beens at DH, just get rid of it, rather watch CC hit!
Scherzer.
nothing nice to say.........
since Andre Ethier is a former Sun Devil and he has been real hell for opposing pitchers, I nominate "El Diablo"

He needs a nickname. This year in my mind, he is "Andre the Giant", but I do not think that would go over well in LA!

Tough one. Good stuff Dan, as always. Billy Beane may be a genius, but trading Ethier for Milton Bradley and Antonio Perez may have been among his finest blunders. Ethier is the quintessential A, a low contract for six years, a good average hitter with power who has a decent OBP. What was Billy thinking?
I'll go with Easy E. It always sticks.
