There is an interesting blog site called TaterTrotTracker.com

The guy records the “trot” time of every homerun hit. Last night David Ortiz was the first player to break the 30 second barrier

. In fact, Ortiz has 5 of the 6 slowest trots of the year. :rolleyes:

Now I’m not one that thinks a batter should get plunked because he hit a homerun off you, but at some point Ortiz’s leisurely trot’s around the bases is going to earn him a bruise on the ribs.

Interesting Russel.

I know that most fans tend to like the baseball of their youth. I'm no exception. I despise the comraderie of players today. Some folks, in the day, would go to a Giants-Dodgers game early in case a fight broke out. Now they hug during pregame, bleeecchh!

Ortiz certainly would have been nailed by now, were it a different generation. When somebody overly dug in against Bob Gibson once, Gibson yelled, "You may as well keep digging till it's six feet!"

Don Drysdale hit a former major leaguer during a fantasy camp. Asked why after the game, Drysdale replied, "You were on my list, I never had the chance to face you again, thought I better take care of it now."

There is no other sport where we rely more on an opponent not to harm us. The pitcher has all the power. And yet, this generation of throwers has given away that power. Now, coming inside, at all, is questioned.

It is the evolvement of baseball. Players were driven in the past by their team, teammates, and getting more money from participating in the World Series. With so much money already pocketed, the World Series takes a back seat to the Union.

Baseball needs a hard-nosed pitcher. Somebody who doesen't care what opponents think of him. Somebody to remind hitters that the ball dosen't always have to be in a 12 inch by 12 inch zone. Somebody that will hit David Ortiz in the wallet and then stare him down.

I miss pitchers like that.

I need Dan to verify this:

Only four players in MLB history have had a first name start with the letter X.

Two of them. Xavier Nady and Xavier Paul are both starting in right field tonight in Wrigley for the Cubs and Dodgers respectively.

I'm watching the game too; Len and Bob are full of useful nuggets tonight!

I believe there was a relief pitcher with Houston about 10-12 years ago that started with 'X' too. Xavier Hernandez maybe? or something of sorts....

I was flippin' channels last night and I heard them mention the two Xavier's and Len was wondering if it had ever happened. Being the dork that I am, I had to know too. I found the four players but wasn't sure if that was all there were.

I did find at least 16 X players that have been in the minors. 14 Xavier's, 1 Xadiel, and 1 Xenophon

Xenophon Brown was a pitcher in the Philadelphia system from 1937-1940

Xavier Hernandez 1989-1998

Xavier Rescigno 1943-1945

Rescigno was a 30 yo rookie with the Pirates in 1943. My guess is he was a WWII "replacement" player.

Rescigno was a pitcher. He pitched in 129 games, starting 21. Over three seasons he went 19-22 with a 4.13 era

There is no truth to the rumor that Dan is still upset Musial beat out Xavier Rescigno for the '43 MVP award
