IF he stays healthy, he's as good as Costas described.

Congrats to the owners that waited 2 months for him. You now have the best pitcher in our game.

Check out the Nats schedule after the lowly Pirates: Indians, Tigers, White Sox, Royals and Orioles. I'm guessing he will continue to look extremely good until they start facing some real teams.

He does have electric stuff, but one start against the worst franchise in pro sports doesn't have me anointing him as the best pitcher in MLB. I still think a patient lineup will do well against him.

what impressed me the most was 14K's in only 90+ pitches. put that against all the hype and his MLB debut, i was impressed. maybe harper will be as good as projected (if his head doesn't get too big to wear a batting helmet), throw in storen, and the Nats have a nice nucleus to build around for the future.

it look's like our nations capitol is making strides in all the major sports with strasburg, harper, ovechkin, mcnabb, and the #i pick in the NBA draft.

On two separate occasions!

Took a chapter out of Musburger's Book of Overdramatizaion. Yeah, they say he's as good as Walter Johnson and KJ couldn't even spell his name right to lead off this thread. :D It's Strasburg. With the love affair the media is having with him it will be a household name soon.
LOL... well no one spells KJ Duchscherer's name right so why should he for others !
That's why he's called KJ Duke. MUCH easier to spell!! :D

Just an FYI: Strasburg's ADP in the NFBC was 216. He was drafted as early as 129th overall and as late as 263rd overall in the main event, but he was drafted in all 29 leagues. I don't have the data, but I would assume he was drafted in all Double Play leagues. Am I correct there?

Good job to all of those who took the chance on this kid. He could be truly special.

The two most patient teams reside in the A.L. East, however, while the most patient team in the N.L is having problems, well, being patient.

He is in the right place at the right time.

The show me twice guys could even be lured next year.

Another drawback, and they're hard to find after last night, is that next year his innings will be limited as well, and even at that, he'll be going into unchartered territory for total innings.

Here is the question I asked at the ballpark last night to fellow fantasy'ers-

From this point on, who would be the pitcher you would most like to have on your team for the rest of this year?

1. Strasburg

2. Jimenez

3. Halladay

4. Lincecum

5. Somebody else

My answer would be Halladay.

Colorado has worked Jimenez hard, I don't think that he can keep it up. (That's what she said)

Sorry, old joke.

Lincecum may have an injury and hasn't had a Lincecum type year.

Strasburg's innings will be limited.

Halladay has been there and I know what I'll get.

Other thoughts?

Agree on Halladay. Strasburg is the truth but probably isn't in my top 10 for the rest of the year. You're talking 90-100 innings for the rest of the year, which means ALOT of 5 inning starts and not alot of wins due to bullpen suckage.

Other thoughts? Ubaldo sliding is possible, but at this point speculative. Halladay not quite as good but a safer bet. Strasburg could have inning limited and still post as many K's as the others from here on, so he isn't that far off the pace. You gotta be a little concerned with Lincecum.

That's my order today for this group ... 1a/1b ubaldo and halladay, 3 strasburg then 4 lincecum. Wainwright and Carpenter should be in the fantasy Cy Young discussion too, perhaps both ahead of stras and linc.

But Halladay for me as well.

Sort of hard to believe the AL answer may be Jon Lester.
Back end is fine, but there not going to have Strasburg start innings when he's over 90 pitches. That means you're getting into the underbelly of every team's bullpen for at 6 outs or so.

Don't get me wrong - Strasburg is everything he was hyped to be and more, but Washington is going to be SO careful (as they should) that it's going to be a mixed bag. In no particular order, I think for THIS year I would rather have these guys for sure:

Halladay

Jimenez

Lincecum

Lester

Wainwright

Josh Johnson

And probably these guys:

Cliff Lee

Sabathia (always better in 2nd half)

Verlander

Carpenter

Felix

Nobody has mentioned Jaime Garcia.

Is he the reincarnation of Zach Duke in his initial year?

Are Justin Duscherer, KJ Duke, and Zach Duke all related somehow?

How about this question. Will he make the All Star team? He has better stuff then any of those other pitchers mentioned.

I think he will be pitching in the All Star game. Unless the Nationals ask him not to.

Would you want to see him make the All Star team?

Would you want to see him make the All Star team? He has 6 more starts before the ASB. For Manuel to pick him, he pretty much needs to have 6 more like last night. Will be tough. Love to see it though.

Would you want to see him make the All Star team? Yes. He's pitched this way all season and if he keeps it up is very deserving. Also, it's a fans game and I think most would rather see Strasburg pitch than Dempster, Cain or ... Carlos Silva. :D
The Nationals will not have anyone voted in. So they will need to have one player selected by the manager.

Riggleman did say that Strasburg would pitch every five days, not every five games. So he should get 6 or 7 more starts. I think he would need to win 5 more games and even then I can't see it happening.

it strasburg pitches every 5th day (not every 5th start) the rest of the year, that will give him 22-23 starts. if he averages 6 IP per contest, i don't think it would be farfetched to assume <3 ERA, <1.2 Whip, 130-140K over that period.

how many other SP's are going to get you that?

Some people are acting like the announcers from the game, It's one game...one!

I also think it will be his best outing of the year.

It was funny...Costas was talking like he was Nolan Ryan until the homerun, then he was quiet as a peep for 2 innings, then...the Hall of Fame, MVP, best player in baseball was running wild out of his mouth again. I thought for sure he was trying to jinx the kid.

The Tigers are on the Nats schedule for next week, Strasburg wont pitch in that series unless there is a rain-out.

I agree with his schedule being fairly easy for a month. After that, we will see better lineups than this...

McCutchen

Walker

Milledge

G. Jones

D. Young

A. LaRoche

R. Cedeno

J Jarmillo

and Jeff The Hit-Man Karstans!

Strasburg was outstanding, but I am not expecting Wins and double digit strikeout performances every game. The Nationals are in last place and that bullpen is starting to come back down to Earth.

I am also wrong more often then right in fantasy sports
