I miss Greg Ambrosius.
Not to alarm folks, Greg is still here running the NFBC, NFFC, and trying to get basketball started. Probably living his normal life of that guy that used to be on the 'Ed Sullivan Show' juggling 30 things at the same time.
Other than meeting Greg a few times at drafts and talking to him a couple of times by phone, really, I only know Greg through his actions and on these Boards.
His actions affect us. We are a part of every decision Greg makes in the NFBC. When it's a decision we agree with, 'attaboys' are given. If not, and we feel 'wronged', well, that 'woman scorned' thing is nothing compared to a fantasy player's wrath.
The 'attaboys' are brief, the 'wronged' seem eternal.
Greg has a finger on the pulse of the fantasy industry. Few in the NFBC, with the possible exception of John Zaleski, share that pulse.
Greg felt that without owning a back end, the NFBC would be left for dead.
Fanball bought the NFBC.
We weren't in Kansas anymore.
We all know what happened then on the Boards. Despair, distrust and a whole lot of other 'dis' words.
Since then, improvements have been made, we, as players have adjusted to the changes, and Greg and the NFBC are on the road to getting through this first tumultuous year.
There are still posts with suggestions for improvements or small complaints about this or that, but it is what we've got, and believe that most are happy, or at the least, ok with the site.
As stated before, these actions are how we 'know' Greg. The other part of how we 'know' Greg is on the Boards.
Over the first six years, I found most of his posts to be effervescent and almost as excited to run the NFBC as much as we enjoyed playing in the Show. Now, in the aftermath, Greg's posts have become defensive and measured.
Sometimes, I feel like Greg was Lassie, telling us that Timmy has fallen in the well, through his barks. Our response was to throw rocks at Lassie, and tell her to shut up.
Understanding the change in tone of Greg's posts is easy. One needs only to go the football Boards to see some of the incredibly stupid posts there. Yet, that was us months ago. True, we knew less than the footballers know now, but still, the beatdown is relentless.
Through all of our bitches and moans, Greg has been unable to do some of the simpler things that he enjoys with us, such as having a 'Talk with Greg' post or even just shooting the shiiit and talking some baseball. For most of the year, it would have just turned into a Fan Ball bash.
I know some of you reading this are going  . Thats fine.
I think most know what I am talking about. I'll bet dollars to donuts that it hasn't been fun being Greg this year.
Hopefully, we will get to see those old Greg Ambrosius posts again.
When he recaptures that fire and enthusiasm that resonated through his posts before this year. When that happens, I'll know that Timmy is safe and that once again, Lassie was right.
