Awesome stuff Let's not get carried away. The English translation of War and Peace has over 560,000 words. Shawn's article doesn't even hit the 10,000 word count.
With that said, to Mr. Childs, congrats on a masterpiece.

This is a post, not a book, there has to be some kind of offset, right?

What does everyone think of the Matt Garza deal?
Garza is a high strung player who seems to revel in every fifth day inconsistency.
Long Gone, you're a minor league expert, good deal for the Rays or Cubs?
Are Cub fans happy today?

Are Cub fans happy today? I consider myself a Cubs fan and don't think this trade helps the Cubs with anything, but maybe a short term caffeine high. Garza is a good pitcher at times and could even become a legit stud, but that isn't going to put the Cubs into the playoffs. The Cubs have some of the worst contracts in the league on their books and until they start to have more home grown players develop into All Start Caliber players and fill in the gaps with good free agents that aren't over the hill and can actually still play, they will continue to suck!
I honestly believe that I could run the Chicago Cubs better than they have been run the last number of years.
But Hey, Kerry Wood is back! HOLY COW!!!

I'M no ML expert - but at first glance that's a pretty nice haul for Garza.
Archer was the top arm in the CHI system and looks ready to pitch in the majors this year.
Guyer (OF) and Lee (SS) were also Top 10 prospects for the Cubs. I don't know much about either other than they both bring speed along as part of their games. Lee looks interesting if Sean Rodriguez/Brigniac can't man 2B/SS fulltime.
They also got depth at C in Robinson Chirinos and a 5th OF who is ready for Opening Day (while the prospects develop) in Sam Fuld.

He just made his 7th round pick in our league, must not have seen the news yet.

Dan, FYI, we almost went through six rounds in the SCL before the first Closer was taken...I think that speaks a lot towards the uncertainty of closer situations this year...or maybe we didn't care about it at that time. Funny thing is, there is uncertainty every year, we just don't know it yet.
Going into last year, the top three closers according to the Forecaster, was Broxton, Street, and Nathan.
He/we could have had his/our pick of the litter for free, and still failed. [/QUOTE]I had Broxton, Wilson, Bell. Two out of three ain't bad.

Are Cub fans happy today? I'm a partial Cub fan and partially happy. At first glance Archer was the key piece here, being close to ready, so if he proves mediocre or a few years away it looks ok. It will be a tough division to win this season and I think they needed at least another #2 type like Garza to be competitive. Probably not enough still, but enough to give Cub fans hope.

Doughboys,
Seeing how you love the Royals, is Moustakas the deal or what?? Will he outperform Pedro Alvarez's numbers from last year or fall short??

Have a hard time trying to understand what the Cubs are doing. It appears to be a plan to nowhare.
I do like Garza, but why do the Cubs need Garza? Does he put them over the top? Would like to see them open up a rotation spot and try Marshall and Cashner as starters.
They should be buyers of young talent not sellers of young talent. The GM should be fired, then replaced with Terry Haney.

I do think the Cubs will sign Prince Fielder for the 2012 season.

Garza's ERA and WHIP should improve now that he's in the NL and out of the AL East.

As long as they don't go 8 Years - $200 Millon for him, the Cubs will have a good start at the Corners of their infield. 3B is going to be open next year too.

cubs= bears= " jim, you are the gm. do what you feel is correct to win" said the rickets. jim (to self) i make 3 million a year and if i get fired i make 0, and if we don't get better this year- i get fired. i am trading for garza. it may be that simple. none of these moves are made in a vacuum and there are elements to them that just don't get discussed. the bad news for hendry is- lovie has devon hester. However, it isn't like the cubs division is that tough. who picked the giants last year? in chicago- garza = round 7. just tons of cub fans.

Say it ain't so, Kelly, but at least this one wouldn't hurt as much as seeing Brett wearing puky purple. I'm still not over that one!!

Yes, I like the Storm Chasers.
And that is who Moustakas will start the year with, unless Moore is silly enough to let him start in Kansas City.
I think Moustakas will be a monster talent. Along the lines of Ryan Zimmerman and maybe with even a little more sock.
Alvarez will be more of an all or nothing hitter. Maybe, like Adam Dunn's first few years before becoming a consistent 40 home run hitter.
Moustakas has star written all over him. I would temper my expectations for this year, fantasy wise. He'll only get four months and most kids have the feeling out process.
But, in the long run, a star.
Most likely, he'll have his biggest years for the Red Sox or Yankees.

I misread the last part of the question...
Alvarez went 16/64/.256 last year. Moustakas should add at least 20 points to the average.
Home runs are a bit easier for Moustakas, he won't be having a righty specifically coming in to face him as Alvarez did with lefties, I think he beats 16 home runs.
No on the rbi. Besides Billy Butler, the Royals will mostly touch second and third base on defense.
