Possible New Ultimate League Payouts
Last year when we announced the debut of the NFBC Diamond League we were so giddy that we also increased the prize structures for the NFBC Ultimate League and Super League. But unfortunately we didn't tier the three levels and as a result participation in the Ultimate League suffered.
This year we hope to prevent that from happening again and making each level special. The Diamond League currently pays out 93.33% and I want to make the Ultimate League similar to football at 90 percent payout and the Super League would remain at 86.7 percent. Here's the new details for the Ultimate Draft & Auction League:
1st: $40,000
2nd: $15,000
3rd: $10,000
To get to 90 percent we'd add another $2,500 in prizes this year, again for both the Ultimate Draft & Auction League. I really like the 8x, 3x, 2x payouts we have above and would like to try something unique here. I would like to provide a $100 cash prize for the weekly winner over the last 25 full weeks of the season. This would keep everyone fighting each week and would spread out payments to more people. I know it won't cover anyone's entry fee no matter what happens, but I think it's something that will keep everyone battling to the end and reward those who dominate each week.
Thoughts?
Right now we have a chance for two Ultimate Leagues and I like the way things are progressing. We could add an Ultimate Draft League on the second weekend of March, likely Sunday, if folks want it, but here's what we have so far:
NFBC Ultimate Draft League
Las Vegas/Teleconference
Sunday, March 20, 10 am PT/1 pm ET
1. Stephen Jupinka, Waldwick, New Jersey
2. Robert Particelli, Berwyn, Pennsylvania
3. James Stanard, Chatham, New Jersey
4. George Kleemann, Palatine, Illinois
5. KC Cha, Manhattan Beach, California
6. Kevin Bass, Potomoc, Maryland
7. Shawn Johnson, Charlotte, North Carolina
NFBC Ultimate Auction League
Las Vegas, Venue TBD
Sunday, March 27, 4 pm PT
1. Will Tyrer, Beverly Hills, California
2. James Stanard, Chatham, New Jersey
3. Dave Potts, Auburn, Alabama
4. Lindy Hinkelman, Greencreek, Idaho
Let me know what you think and if you want to be added to this list let me know. Again, going forward the tiered prize structure would be:
NFBC Diamond: 93.33%
NFBC Ultimate: 90%
NFBC Super: 86.7%

Possible New Ultimate League Payouts
With the above post in mind, I'd like to let folks know that there are only FOUR SPOTS LEFT in the Saturday, March 26th Super League, which follows the Main Event. That event has sold out every year since 2006 and it looks like it will be an early sellout again. If we sell that one out early we can either add a second Super League for that night or look for another time slot to add.
Here's the signups thus far for the two Super Leagues we currently have scheduled:
NFBC Super League
Saturday, March 26, 7 pm ET/4 pm PT
1. James Stanard, Edwards, Colorado (LV)
2. Jeff Dobies, Farmingville, New York (NY)
3. Joe Thelen, Garden City, New York
4. Lavoie Gaetan, Varennes, Quebec (LV)
5. Thomas McDevitt, Berkeley, California (LV)
6. Ken Magner, Freehold, New Jersey (LV)
7. Stephen Jupinka, Waldwick, New Jersey (LV)
8. Bryan Fitzgerald, Latham, New York (LV)
9. Robert Particelli, Berwyn, Pennsylvania
10. Glenn Lowy, Farmingville, New York
11. Shawn Johnson, Charlotte, North Carolina
12. Rusty Clark, Centerville, Ohio (LV)
NFBC Super League
Sunday, March 27, 1 p.m. ET/10 am PT
1. Thomas McDevitt, Berkeley, California (LV)
2. Ken Magner, Freehold, New Jersey (LV)
3. Shawn Johnson, Charlotte, North Carolina
Last year we also had a full Super League on Sunday, March 20th and there should have been a signup link for that one. I'm not sure what happened there, but if anyone would like to do a Super League on Sunday, March 20th I'm up for it. We can either do it at 1 pm ET/10 am PT during the same time as the Ultimate League, or better yet I'll schedule one for 7 pm ET/4 pm PT on Sunday, March 20th if that works better for everyone. Then we can host an Ultimate League in the morning and a Super League at night.
Once we have the new Registration page ready, plan on seeing a third Super League on Sunday, March 20th. Otherwise, plan for the 86.7% payout in this format and drafts on March 20, March 26 and March 27. I'll host them in Las Vegas and we can hook up everyone via telephone/online with large draft boards to follow online. I hope that helps.

I don't like the weekly prize idea for the extra payout on the Ultimate. Too much luck involved and not enough payout to be worth it. How about adding fourth place? Otherwise, just spread over the first three spots.

Yikes, the Saturday Super looks much too tough for me. Greg, start a Super league for rookies only please and switch me over to that list. Thanks.
Regarding the Ultimate, I agree that the additional funds should be split amonst 2nd and 3rd. I don't think players in these premium leagues need the additional motivation to keep playing. In my Super last year, every last player battled to the end.
However, if you do decide that you want to utilize that extra money as a motivational tool, make it a prize for top finisher for the last 8 weeks total or 4 weeks total. That'll keep people active to the end.
Either way, nice job bumping up the Ultimate.
Glenn

We'll get a normal conference room for this one and hook up via teleconference with the rest. This should roll nicely and I'll provide the drinks and some food for those in LV.

Greg,
I'll take the last spot in the Ultimate if it's still there. Thanks.

I told you we'd fill this before the Packers' game on Sunday!!
Rob Silver emailed me at 8:56 pm CT to grab one of the last Ultimate spots and I had already turned off my Blackberry. Glenn Schroter emailed me at 9:00 CT and then Joe Berg followed with this post after midnight my time. Kevin Kirves followed Joe, thinking he was grabbing the last spot. I do know that Andy Robinson is very tentative for this one, so I'm going to have to get a commitment from him and circle back with everyone currently on the list.
That being said, here's the current signup list and we'll do all we can to work this out and even find another suitable time if needed for the Ultimate Draft League. Thanks folks for making this happen this year because as great as last year was there was a void without the Ultimate Draft League for the first time since 2004.
