State of our Union.................From a Customer Point Of View

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Fri Jan 28, 2011 6:14 am

I don't really know where I'm going with this. To tell the truth, I'm hoping to pull some thoughts out of my ass as I go. Disgusting as that sounds.

The other day, there was a thread started, entitled, 'Looking forward...Not Backward'. It was started with the best of intentions. But, we all think of the past. It can't be whitewashed.

In our case, it's a good thing. The NFBC has been a roller coaster for the customer. The last year and a half has been, for the most part, bumpy.

Heck, it was a time where Walla Walla quit, and others responded, 'I don't blame you'.

We can't forget. We don't want to be doomed to duplicate our past failures. Straight out, Fanball was hell on the customer. It changed us. It changed Greg. It changed everything. It took a very enjoyable experience, and made it less so.

I thought about how it would feel to be Greg. Calming down the masses on one hand, while getting his other hand slapped away after asking for fixes. A man in the middle.

I think we all knew. We knew he wasn't to blame. But, we need a fall guy and Greg was the only one visible. He took far too many hits in the name of Fanball.

When news came that Fanball had the plug pulled, my first response was a fist pump. Selfish, really. There were families who depend on Fanball. But, they weren't my first thought. My first thought was the NFBC. I care, probably too much. But, the NFBC has become a part of me, and I trust, most of you folks as well.

I don't know Greg on a day to day basis, but, I think I know what he is made of. He's made of good stuff. A man with character who would not think 'woe is me', more as a second chance to get the ship through the rough seas.

Afterall, It's his legacy.

Fanball, in retrospect, was an albatross. It was Wal-Mart and the NFBC was a department in the store. Sometimes we could get quick fixes, but, most of the time other departments came first.

Names such as Vicente Padilla and Jeff Clement, and Ryan Houston will forever be remembered by us. But, in looking to the future, it'll be the passing of an era. Soon, it'll be something we'll make jokes about and laugh at.

They say America is coming out of its recession. The same could be said for the NFBC. Our worst times are behind us. And now, we look toward the future with what we had in the past.

Before Fanball.

The NFBC customer comes first again. We'll have no worries about the backend and any fixes that are needed won't be put on a list to nowhere. If you've 'quit' or just felt snookered by Fanball, then come back. Think of it as Coke changing their recipe. This will be 'Classic NFBC' and not something to be missed.

As the guy that started the Looking Forward thread I gotta agree with most of what you said.

Last year was my first year in the NFBC and by most accounts it was the worst year ever for the NFBC in terms of problems with the backend and what not.

The ONLY reason I am playing a second year is because of the peeps involved.

I am ITCHING to draft dammit!! lol

Dan...... steak dinner on me that once the new plans are in place, WALLA will announce to us all that he is coming back. The removal of FANBALL is this years out. ( or ironically, his in )

Greg, of course, with his typical class will welcome him back with open arms.

Medium Rare big guy. This evaluation in my Best Bet of the day. ;)

I won't take that bet, Ken. Better odds on an 8-team parley (I will do at least one of those for March Madness, of course).

Looking forward to CATCHing up in late March.

I don't know how the NFBC will look in the future. Heck, nobody does.

But, I was thinking about Greg, the NFBC and our state of limbo till legalities are pushed aside.

I was pondering that Greg is an Editor first, NFBC originator second.

Wouldn't it be cool to have the new NFBC powers that be, have it's own magazine?

Sorry Greg, but to heck with 'Fantasy Baseball Mag'. Bring on NFBC and NFFC Magazine!

Other magazines already boast of 'NFBC style' drafts. Other sites already have 'NFBC style' Mock drafts. Take the name to the public. There's nothing better than having a guy holding a check under the Mast head of the same contest. The advertising pays for itself.

It'd be great to see the powers that will be, be on board for something like this. Even my friend, Ryan Houston, would find this idea, BOFFO!
