Only 11 DAYS left 'til we get to play like 11-year old kids again. Or is that 12-year old kids? Err 13-year old? 14? Anyone got a birth certificate?

Well let's just say 'til we get to play like kids again. .......

I saw Wade Boggs this summer and he looked like he could still eat a plate of chicken and take the field!

Let me know if you need player suggestions for #8! ;)

Only 10 DAYS left for those competing in Ssss-loooo-wwww drafts to finish their 50 rounds.........

Even with the reduction down to a 10-hour clock, it won't be easy to do unless everyone's on board to keep the drafts moving along..........

That's why I stick to the Ssss-loooo-wwww drafts run by KJ, the inventor of this format. He keeps everyone in line and the drafts hustling home......

By the way, during the Hot Tub draft last night Doughy reminded me of a baseball legend who wore # 10 who we lost this year. So here's a few additional pictures for the Cubby faithful and for a great player we lost too soon. The departed Mr. Santo deserves to be in the Hall.....

Classy stuff Glenn

In my dream world there would be a #8 Dawson flag flying on that pole as well, but I know its never going to happen and most likely shouldn't.

Well - they definitely won't put a Dawson flag up before they put a up Sandberg!

They will never put up Andre Dawson's # 8 jersey on that pole. I just loved watching him play right field for the Cubs those 6 years! :D

Sandberg's #23, only a matter of time!

The shot with Durocher putting his hands on Banks and Williams shoulders reminds me of something that happened in 1955.

Willie Mays was the talk of baseball. His Giants had just won the World Series. The series was highlighted by 'The Catch' that is still talked about today. He was the MVP that year.

As Ted Williams said after watching him in the All-Star game, "They invented the All-Star game for Willie Mays".

Despite this, it was still not the best of times for black folks. Although freedom was theirs, the conotation was that they had to 'know their place'. Mays shied away from any race questions and was not a 'boat rocker'.

In the spring of 1955, Sports Illustrated wanted to put Mays on the cover of their magazine. SI was relatively new and was still fighting the subscription wars with The Sporting News and Sport Magazine.

After Mays appeared on their cover, they were inundated with angry letters, threatening notes, and had a steep drop in subscriptions.

The photo that was used on the cover was one of Mays and Durocher standing on each side of Laraine Day, an actress at the time and Durocher's wife. The photo has Day touching Mays shoulder. Back in the day, it was taboo for any magazine to show racial 'touching'.

The photo was innocent enough, perhaps one of the 'photo guys' here can show it to us. But, that one cover shot came closer to putting SI out of business than all other calamities.

We live in a crazy world.

Sandberg's #23, only a matter of time! That picture up above is the left field foul pole from a couple years ago..

Sandberg’s #23 flag is already flying high on the right field foul pole as well as Banks and Santo teammate, Billy Williams #26.

The Cubs also retired number 31 two years ago in honor of both Fergie Jenkins and Greg Maddux. If my memory is correct, the Maddux 31 is on the right field pole and the Jenkins 31 is on the left field pole.

Before the Cubs had so many retired numbers, the previous flags on the poles were “Hey Hey” and “Holy Cow” in honor of Cubs TV broadcasters Jack Brickhouse and Harry Carey. Those flags have been moved. They now ring the top of Wrigley along with flags from all their World Series wins :D and appearances, playoff seasons, and Jackie Robinson’s #42.

Rumor is that Dawson will get a flag this year.

Edit>>>( Now that I think about it more. The bottom half of the foul poles have a screen that extends into fair territory to help umps on HR calls. I think the words "HEY HEY" and "HOLY COW" are printed on those screens.)

I can see both of our pictures Glenn! ;)

Are you ready for the NFBCK draft on Saturday? I can't WAIT!

You and I are competing for the Rookie of the Year title in a league filled with Big Leaguers buddy!

Great picture.

Durocher's windbreaker under the jersey makes me laugh. A lot of players and Managers posed for baseball cards and pictures with the windbreaker under, just because it was shinier and made them look 'boss'.

Laraine Day with the 'hourglass' body look that was so popular in the day.

Thanks.

Only 8 DAYS left 'til we get to try and top the greatest NFBC season to date.

To do so, one of us would have to combine a Main Event Overall Championship........

......with a Live Double Play Overall Championship.

Seems impossible, but there's someone who pulled it off. Who's to say it can't happen again? .......

Here ya go Bud. The Hawk wearing the #8 jersey he was most proud of.......

I hear they're thinking of putting a flag up with his number at Sun Life Stadium. :D
