2011 NFBC Events In Chicago

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Feb 15, 2011 4:23 am

For the eighth straight season we are heading back to the Windy City for NFBC drafts and auctions. This year we are at Trackside Arlington Park, the OTB site on the north side of Chicago. Trackside will have an OTB room for anyone who wants to place some horse bets and the restaurant will have all of the March Madness games on as well. It should be a fun, fun time in Chicago.

We don't have a host hotel yet, but if anyone wants to recommend a site I can call for a room block and keep everyone in the same location. Just say the word and I'll get it done.

Also, some events will fill up quicker than others, so we'll start alerting folks about those now. One of them is the Auction Championship that is set for Friday, March 25th at 4 pm CT. We currently have nine spots filled, which means we have only SIX SPOTS LEFT. Contact me at [email protected] or post your name here if you'd like to secure a spot in this draft. Here's the current signup list for that event:

CHICAGO

Trackside, Arlington Park

Friday, March 25, 4 pm CT

1. William Cleavenger, Morganfield, Kentucky

2. Gary Cutler, Warren, Michigan

3. Matthew Sterk, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa

4. Dave Van Der Stuyf, Willow Springs, Illinois

5. Ron Marien, Bloomington, Minnesota

6. Jack Haan/John Pausma, Palos Heights, Illinois

7. George Puhl, Metamora, Illinois

8. Mike Rothe, Bethalto, Illinois

9. Mike King, Greenfield, Wisconsin

Thanks all and look for more news on Chicago soon. We have Double Plays lined up for Friday morning at Trackside and again on Saturday night after the Main Event. Come and join us for a great weekend of baseball drafts in the Windy City.

Arlington Park. There is a building outside the course, next to the race track.

This building is just before you enter Arlington Park's parking lot. See the link for directions, but it's a nice private building with a 6,000 square foot banquet room where we'll be located. There is a restaurant and OTB in the same building and during the season it's on the back-stretch side of the horse track. Enjoy.

Folks, a lot of you who aren't from Chicago might not know that there is a Metra train station that is right across from Arlington Park in Arlington Heights, which takes you directly to and from downtown, it's only about 30 minutes away on the train.

So theoretically you can still stay downtown and take the train to the draft.

I'm not from Chicago, but there are of plenty of hotels in the Schaumburg area with reasonable rates. Most are about 10 minutes from the Arlington Park. A few of us stayed in that area for the NFFC draft last year.

Greg or Tom,

Is the 2011 NBC Signup List thread current? I was wondering how many signups as of today for the Chicago main event (Saturday noon contest)... Is it still at 19? Thanks, Rich

Just an FYI for those travelling to Chicago. I just made a reservation at the Hilton Garden Inn in Schaumburg for <$71/night total cost. The hotel is 5 miles and a simple drive to Trackside.

I live in Chicago, another area which is close to O'Hare and is really safe is Rosemont, there is a Hilton Garden Inn there in Des Plaines/Rosemont, which is right across from the brand new casino which is currently under construction and should ready to open in a few months. Hopefully Greg and company can host our drafts at this new huge casino in the future?
