trading came up this week in another thread.
Now, somebody coming onto an NFBC site to trumpet trading is sorta like carrying an anti-gun placard to an NRA convention.
But, it did make me pause, I don't play in any trade leagues. Like Unions in America, they had an important place at one time, but not so much any more.
Trades were great when we actually knew everybody at the table, if somebody made a perceived bad trade, league members would haze the bad trader. With the advent of the internet, we don't know who we're drafting against. Peer pressure doesn't work and nobody wants to be a Commishioner.
Trades had their usefullness, and still do if knowing everybody at the table, but for the NFBC, no.
This poster went on to say that trades gave an apperance of being like a big league G.M.
To that, I call bullshiit.
First, EVERY big league trade now, is made with each players contract in mind. Money has become more important, not whether 'his guy is better than my guy'.
Also, besides the trade deadline and off season, very few trades are made. To tell the truth, in season, a no trade league is more similar to a big league G.M.
New to the NFBC?-
Last year at this time, I was so uneasy about the NFBC. Fanball had bought them, a company I had heard very few good things about.
When some grumblings started, an exec named Ryan E Houston tried to placate everybody in an infamous post with a picture of MVP cards, or keys, or something. He was advertising a party in Las Vegas for 'the elite' or something to that affect.
That one post had me saying, "Oh crap, we're in trouble".
Designed to make us act like 12 year old girls at a Justin Bieber concert, it had the opposite effect. I called him a late night telemarketer, others called him worse.
I bring this up for the new folks out there. Some of you may have heard stuff that probably did not put the NFBC in a good light.
Heck, some of it might even be true!
But, I can tell you this. Before Fanball, nothing got my fantasy engine humming more than the NFBC. And, now that Fanball lies on the side of the road in the rear view mirror, and the NFBC going back to STATS, THIS is the place to be, folks. It is simply, the best fantasy game out there. You'll slowly, or maybe even quickly, get to know just how good the customer service is with Greg, Tom, and Geoff. THAT has always been here, and it will always be that way. You'll become so accustomed to this customer service that you'll wonder why you haven't gotten an answer to a question, just mere minutes after posting it.
The players here are like my second family. I concluded getting signups for a league yesterday.
Most didn't leave their real names, they didn't have to, I knew them all.
Each one of these fellas and gals will be nice as punch before and after the season, and try to kick your ass in between.
Of course, as with your own family, say something that is disagreed with, and they'll let you know it.
It really is a family. Many plan their only vacation trip around a live draft in order to draft and see friends they have met through the NFBC. Some, who have met at these drafts, now, stay in constant contact, friends for life.
If newbies have come here because they've conquered local, yahoo, or ESPN leagues, you're at the right place. The competition will be like making the jump from AA to the bigs.
It'll cost $1400 to see just how good you are. It'll cost a few hundred more dollars for satelites or slow drafts to test the waters.
But, the NFBC experience, the great customer service, and the making of friendships that may last a lifetime? That is all free.
Shill-
Somebody insists on calling Shawn a Shill(say that fast three times).
I called Shawn a shill, in jest afterward. It pisssed him off. So, I know the effect it must have on him, when somebody is serious. Words hurt, even when slung by a coward hiding behind a Boards monicker.
That said, if Shawn is in my league in Vegas, I'll call him a shill at the top of my lungs to throw him off his game

Seriously though, I just call Shawn, good.
Now, if after this post somebody wants to call me a shill, so be it.
I know Greg wasn't calling me a shill when I said Fanball was as stupid as me

I call 'em as I see them.
And if you're reading this, you're in the right place.
This is going to be a fantastic year.
