Baseball Trivia

Here are 10 questions, see how many you can get without cracking a book....or computer...

1. I asked this last night in the Hot Tub...

What do every U.S. President and Hall of Famer have in common?

2. Hanley Ramirez and Alex Rios both had 20 home runs and 30 stolen bases last year.

Who was the only other player to accomplish that feat?

3. Nolan Ryan threw seven no-hitters in his career, most among Major Leaguers.

Who had the most one-hitters?

4. What player with at least 30 stolen bases last year, had the best sb/ab ratio?

5. When was the last time somebody threw 10 complete games in a year? Who was it?

6. Who is the only pitcher in baseball who currently sports a single digit on the back of his jersey?

I hope I'm right :D , I haven't checked thoroughly.

7. Four third basemaen have hit at least 400 home runs, including a current 3b. Can you name them?

Hint: ARod hasn't been playing third THAT long...

8. Ironically, the All-Time leaders in sacrifice flies were teammates and hit together in the batting order most of their careers.

Who were they?

9. A major leaguer will break a record by playing in a game this year.

Who is it and why?

10. Joe Sewell played 14 seasons in the Majors from 1920-1933. He had 7, 132 at bats.

During those 7,132 at bats, he did this 114 times.

What is it?

Just for fun....

Very hard not to just look up the answers.

This is all I got off the top of my head.

7. Schmidt….Chipper…..Mathews……????

10. Strike out….Sewell was one of the greatest contact hitters of all-time. I think (I want to look it up so bad!!!!) he has the fewest K’s per at-bat record ( if that’s a record).

Right on every count....

Incredibly, Sewell struck out 1.6 times every 100 at bats.

The other 3b is tough....

Crisp had a stolen base in less than every 10 at bats.

Here are the answers...if you want to prolong your agony, don't look down!

1. While it is a rule that U.S Presidents have to be at least 35 years of age to be voted in to office, no Hall of Famer has ever been elected before their 35th birthday as well.

Kennedy was the youngest President, voted in at 43.

Koufax, the youngest Hall of Famer, he was 36.

3. Bob Feller threw 12 one hitters.

5. Amazingly, nobody has done it this century. Year of the pitcher, my arse!

Randy Johnson was the last, he did it in 1999.

6. Kyle Drabek wears number 4 for the Toronto Blue Jays.

7. The missing third baseman is Darrell Evans

8. The two teammates with 128 and 127 sacrifice flies are Eddie Murray and Cal Ripken
