There was a rumor that I made my way into both main event weekends. That turned out to be true. I'll post my teams when I get a chance to decompress. I went with a more risky approach this year across the board.

Interesting team, some risk, some upside. You were obviously targeting most of your top 10 picks as from what I can tell, you jumped a round or more on most of them.

One thing though, I thought you said you were going to post the 100K team.

Just kidding Bud. That league was stacked. I would love to see the draft board from that league if anyone's got it.

Mark,

I like that team ALOT! I see you went pitching early and often (as did I, even drafted Halladay in the first as well).

Stanton 3rd Rd huh........... What happened to Heyward?

I like the pitching. Good job, now where is the 100k team?

Hey Mark - missed seeing you in NY this year.

Didn't draft ME - but my DP team shares Torres, Raburn, Garcia and AJ.

I like Santana more than most and think you will be rewarded there.

Good luck this year RC

Gekko, the thing I like about your draft is that you pick who you want, not what ADP says to pick. I love the Kinsler pick (I took him 21st overall in a Super) and the Stanton pick (been taking him early as well).

High upside team with alot of injury risk that could be huge if it works out. Backend of the pitching staff is a little scary in that regard.

Still, make no mistake I've seen enough of Mark's drafts to know that he follows ADP as much as anyone. However, where he differs is he jumps a round for his players every single pick. He's willing to forfeit an early pick to get all his guys. An admirable strategy all the same and obviously one that's worked out for him to date. What amazes me about Mark is how he always seems to be right on the players he does jump for......

I think ADP is important for knowing how early you need to pick a player you really want (i.e, a round or two early) and it looks like Gekko did that here. I think we sometimes forget though that a player's ADP means (roughly) that there's a 50/50 chance the guy is still there at that ADP.

Also, I know I sometimes fall into the trap of thinking that just because is falling well below his ADP that he becomes a "value" pick. Not really. It could just mean that, on average, the people drafting are stupid and the projection doesn't justify the ADP. Or that the guys doesn't fit your team construction.

I always like seeing your drafts because of your lack of fear in drafting who you want. I loved two players this year, Stanton being one of them. His power is prodigious. I remember you discounting him last year when he came up, saying his K rate was too high, and now you take him in the 3rd round. lol I assume you bought him in the auction, too? I paid $21 for him and would have paid more.
Who is this, robed in splendor, striding forward in the greatness of his strength? “It is I, proclaiming victory, mighty to save.” Isaiah 63:1

Best of luck to you Mark. I love the pitching but I'm scratching my head on the bats. Here are my thoughts on your draft...

1. Halladay SP1 - Nothing wrong with Halladay in the 1st should be money in the bank.

2. Kinsler 2B - Not a fan of this pick because Utley could end up playing more games than him! In five seasons he has averaged 124 games with a high of 144. His stats are off the charts as far as production per game played and for that factor he is a top pick.

3. Stanton OF1 - Might be a reach in the 3rd round but he will pay out 3rd round value. Dunn Jr if you ask me. His main knock is he could hit for a low AVG but he did alright in the minors. So project .250-.265 I say more around .265-.280 with 30++ HR power.

4. C.Santana C1 - Again maybe a little early but this guy reminds me of Soto in 08. Should be near those numbers too.

5. Gallardo SP2 - I'm sure a lot of SP's were going and I like Gallardo. His WHIP is a little high but I like how his BB's dropped last year could get that WHIP down below 1.30.

6. Beckham MI - A lot of love for Beckham this year but I don't see top 10 round value yet. I see the 20/10 upside and he will do better than last year I still have him red flagged with his drop in AVG, BB Rate, and K Rate from 09.

7. M.Thornton RP1 - Easy top 10 closer but I would be full of BS if I told you that Sale didn't scare the hell out of me.

8. B.Anderson SP3 - I think Jimenez was around a 8th round pick last year. Anderson can make the jump into the top 20 easy this year.

9. Huff 1B - Hate the guy only because the years I have him he sucks (05,09) but did enjoy his 03 break out season. Good thing for you I don't have him this year ;) Belt and the crowded OF could eat into playing time but a safe play.

10. Furcal SS - Another eggs all in one basket MI. Has missed a lot of games in the past 4 seasons the question is do you get the everyday .270 hitting Furcal or the on and off injury .300 hitting model? I like the value in the 10th for a guy who can still get 100 Runs and 25 SB at SS.

11. Swisher OF2 - Book it .250-80-28-80-0 Remember he has hit under .250 just as many times as over .250 and last year he shattered his previous career high by 26 points!

12. MRAM OF3 - He will have to try more than just fertility drugs to get some life into his bat! I think Thome offers more than Manny this year.

13. Torres OF4 - CF is his and should get a lot of AB's. I think the power was at his peak last year but SB should go up.

14. Raburn OF5 - LOVE THIS PICK he will be your 2nd best OF.

15. J.Garcia SP4 - No love for Garcia this year. Great Value and staff is looking sick!

16. Edwin E 3B - AVG and playing time key here. Hot/Cold as they get. If he keeps everyday job 25+ HR easy.

17. Rausch RP1 - Will net some early saves but TOR pen loaded with guys who can pitch in the 9th.

18. Beachy SP5 - Good rookie to roll the dice with. Low BB/9 and nice K numbers. See how he does in the show.

19. KK (Royals) CI - N. Cruz AAAA type. I'm not a fan for the fact I think he will not hit for AVG but also would not be shocked if he breaks out.

20. Pierzinski C2 - GREAT VALUE! Every year he puts up above average stats for a catcher and every year he gets drafted late in drafts like Reggie Sanders of years past.

21. C.Gomex OF6 - Go-Go might be Go-Going to the bench now.

22. Bradley OF7 - Contract year!!!

23. Porcello SP6 - Will be helping your team all year

24. Capuano SP7 - Don't have much to say.

25. J.Peralta RP3 - Sneaky closer?

26. C.Young SP8 - Great till he gets hurt.

27. Bonifacio OF8- Starting him 1st week? Could pay off again

28. Branyan 1B 3- Great pick if he wins everyday job

29. M.Izturis 2B/#B- good plug in guy

30. Garland - Didn't have him on my radar guess I will have to wait and see.

I love the pitching your going to be strong across the board pending a FAAB closer. Your bats need a lot of work. I see a lot of upside but maybe a few too many risk. Only guys who played more than 140 games last year from your team are Huff and Swisher. You could add in Stanton with his minor league games to that list. Getting playing time/AB's for some of your guys will be key along with not getting crushed with a handful of injury's at the same time. I can see this team getting into the top 100 but from what I see right now it's not set up for the grand prize.

We just used different players. I like the team though you may be a bit short on power which is one of the dangers of going with a scarcity approach

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. Yes, I'm light in steals (which was the plan btw). Avg is a little less than what I'd like. Yes, some injury risks, however I'm very comfortable "banking their production" and then finding a replacement via FAAB.

.

I will post some more of my teams and respond to some of your comments when I get a chance to decompress.

Mark,

I like that team ALOT! I see you went pitching early and often (as did I, even drafted Halladay in the first as well). Thanks Jeff. I saw one of your teams and I was impressed with it as well. Good work!
