13- Brandon Lyon
-Closers continue to fly off the boards and I grab one of the last full-time options. This is the 2nd live draft I've taking Lyon. Funny thing is that in both, different drafters at each draft noted that when I said the words "Brandon Lyon", I had a look of disgust on my face. Guess deep down, I'm really thrilled about this pick.
When I posted the thread analyzing my Main Event drafts, this is what I had to say about Brandon Lyon. Maybe now my fellow drafters will understand the nauseous look on my face while making this pick.
What a piece of crap. Why is saves a category anyway? Can't we just replace it with strand rate or something?

He got dinked and dunked a bit, but he doesn't miss bats, so he basically sucks. Lopez is about 1000x better of a pitcher.

Glenn,
I took him at 13 in the Main for the same reasons you did, with pretty much the same feelings as you. As painful as it seems today, it is just one day. Brandon will be fine. We will be fine. The Astros have no real good closer in waiting with Lopez having trouble with leftys and no money to go out and get a closer and they will not want to trade prospects for a closer.
Don't worry, be happy, tomorrow is another day.

I agree with this sentiment. I drafted Feliz,Aardsma & Rauch as my closers. I haven't "enjoyed" any blowups yet but they will come. It is amazing to me just how bad some of these "good" closers hae been this year.
My favorite closer this year? Aardsma!!! I read about him throwing 20 pitches, then 41 pitches, fielding bunts. It warmed my heart to hear how good he looked. The best part was he couldn't hurt my ERA, WHIP or blood pressure! I heard he pitched in a simulated game yesterday. Woohoo! He still hasn't given up an earned run! At this point in the season he's the best closer money could buy!
I think everyone should draft an injured/rehabbing closer every year. He may stink up a 9th inning sometime soon, but for now he's fantasy gold!
