I'm sitting here watching Alexi Ogando on MLB-TV just put down Tiger after Tiger and it's annoying the freakin' crap outta me.

I dropped him in three leagues the first FAAB weekend after it was announced that Feliz would be keeping the closer position and Nolan Ryan stated that Ogando would only be a temporary starter because of Texas' needs in middle relief. Just a terrible call by me.

I have no problem churning my roster continuously trying to find the perfect mix. For the most part it works out for me. Still, year after year I seem to drop one player a week too early and spend the rest of the year regretting it. A part-time Zobrist dropped two years ago in 2 leagues right before he started playing everyday, a bombed start after start Matusz dumped last year in 2 leagues just before he righted the ship. Will Ogando be this year's regret?

My guess is that I end up rooting against Ogando more than any other player this season to no avail. I'm sure that we've all been there, but I'm very pissed at myself right now.

Everybody does it, but it does suck. Last year I drafted Bautista in the 30th round of 3 different drafts. In one of them, I dropped him after the Sunday night game.

Have to admit I was a little surprised to see you drop him. I bid on him after you dropped him but not enough.

He still only throws FB/slider and it will catch up to him eventually, but, yeah, I'd like to have him.

When you draft good deep teams like you do Glenn, your are going to have this happen more often than most. Inevitably there is someone that you think can help you on the wire, and early on you have to drop someone that you liked when you just drafted a week or two prior. Just a matter of educated guessed and like you said, you had good reasons for the educated guess at the time. I will be rooting against him with you. Naked on him here.

I figured the FB/slider combo would be extremely effective in the 9th inning, but less effective without a 3rd pitch in a starting role. That along with the park he pitches in, the fact that he was a righthanded specialist last year, only threw 70+ innings in 2010, was only stretched out one start in March, and Nolan Ryan's less than enthusiastic quote about his starting prospects pretty much sealed the deal for me. Still, I should have waited a game to see how he fared. I mean he was scheduled to pitch the next freakin' day.

Lack of patience. Goddamn OCD, gotta find a cure quick!!! ;)

You made the right call at the time blending facts and gut. Now bottle up the angst and shelve it because we simply cannot predict the future. Time to find a team that's doing well and soak it in.

No reason to beat yourself up. I'll offer my opinion... I didn't even put a bid on Ogando. There's no denying that he has potential, however he has never thrown more than 41 innings in any one season. Today, he was pulled after 70+ pitches. Does he stay in the rotation? If he does, does he make it past the 5th inning with an 80 pitch count?

C.J. Wilson had some success last year after transitioning from reliever, but he also had starting experience early in his career. Ogando has three career starts in four seasons.

Ogando may develop into a quality starting pitcher, however don't forget that Tommy Hunter and Brandon Webb are lying in the weeds and they are not going to the pen.

Perhaps you could be disappointed with the timing of the move, but don't beat yourself up. If Ogando has two consecutive poor outings at some point, you will start hearing rumors of a return to the pen with guys getting healthy. It's something that could change the opinion of those who picked him up at a big cost.

You made what you felt was the best decision at the time. No need looking back because you can't change it.

He actually left due to a recurrence of a blister issue on a finger on his throwing hand...maybe this is no big deal, maybe it will hinder him if it gets worse...

In all seriousness guys, I'm just venting here. Part of the fun of this hobby for me is living and dying with every move. If I didn't care as much, I wouldn't enjoy it as much.

I do appreciate you guys talking me off the ledge however (except for Nelson that is ). I probably wouldn't have jumped anyway.....well, probably. ;)

glenn - the best thing to do is not even pay attention to ogando the rest of the way. continuing to focus on this situation will do 2 things...

1. it will take time away from focusing on your team

2. it will make you gun shy about cutting players in the future

make the cuts and move on. right or wrong, it doesn't matter now
Glenn - Look on the bright side. The Sox ended up just fine even though they got rid of the Babe 90 some years ago.
I think you hit the nail on the head... I think we care so much and that is why we sometimes feel the way we do. I know that I'm my own harshest critic. Still beating myself up over Phil Hughes... Great advice offered by some of the top players in this thread. good luck to you the rest of the year, Glenn.
Glenn,

Your record speaks for itself. If this is the only move you beat yourself up over all year, you'll be doing very well once again.

My first main event team is getting murdered in pitching. I decided to throw a total of 400 at Ogando and Britton. At the last minute I backed it down. I was second best on both. Probably will be my only chance at getting two quality guys.

I'll be rooting against him with you. By the way I saw the game in Detroit today that Ogando threw. The wind was blowing in significantly helping both him and Verlander, although I'd love to have both guys, wind or no wind.

In two of the three leagues I dropped Ogando, it was for Chris Tillman. Well, I'm certainly feeling a lot better about that decision tonight.
