I'll let you know when I finalize things, but it's tough.
The two Hyatts in Tampa are very appealing right now. One is downtown Tampa and the other is near the airport. I'm talking with both today.
I look forward to accepting that first signup for 2006. The signup page will be available the day we send out 2005 winnings, which is the first day after the 2005 season!!! [/quote]
Greg, I doubt you'd accept this idea, but since you are considering Tampa, please consider Phoenix-Tempe over Vegas.
I went there after the drafts Sunday morning for 4 days and caught games at 4 different parks. It was a blast. I actually could not wait to get out of Vegas to get there.
As far as gaming, there's Casino Arizona for poker and a few other places I think. The room's need to be set up now, but it would be much lower than the Rio.
AND GOING TO THE GAMES WITH OTHER OWNERS WOULD BUILD YOUR EVENT DRAMATICALLY. As you know, the community you build is the key to lasting success in this business.
I should know...

Sure, let's drop the most successful venue where the signups were largest to go somewhere different. I don't think this requires much comment!

Arizona's strip clubs actually do rival Vegas...add poker, and better weather to the mix...all we need is a place (computer even) to place sports wagers...and it sounds tempting!
I love Vegas...maybe more than any place on Earth...but baseball drafts within shouting distance of the players would be nice!
Too bad we can't do Vegas for Football...and Scottsdale for baseball!

Before you all get on the Arizona Bandwagon, have you bothered to read the FAQs? I
don't think AZ is even remotely viable.
Questions
Q: Can anyone compete in the National Fantasy Football Championship?
A: No. The principal participant must be 21 years of age and cannot reside in the five following states: Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana or Vermont.
Q: Can I still compete in the National Fantasy Baseball Championship if I reside in one of the five states listed as ineligible?
A: No. The laws in those five states are written in such a way that this contest could be considered as a form of gambling, even though skill far outweighs luck in a 26-week contest that includes thousands of games. Rather than fight the legal system in those states, we have chosen to void all members who provide addresses from those states. The co-manager, however, can reside in one of those five states.

hey greg, i just wanted to drop a quick note to both congratulate and thank you. you, tom, rocky and the rest of the staff have done a terrific job in a short amount of time in growing this contest. there will always be unexpected or problematic events that occur irregardless of preparation in running any contest of this sort. i had an absolute blast draft weekend, i really like the hilton in new york over the javits, that was a nice upgrade in atmosphere.
as for next year, the only request i would have, is that i, as the consumer, have the opportunity to play in all the leagues that are open for play. i would have liked to play the ultimate auction as well as the draft, but they were done simultaneously. doing a morning/evening line-up on the auctions and the ultimates would be something i would like to see happen. thanks again for some great contests. christopher f. Chris, you are a loyal participant, but you're not alone. After Friday's second auction, I ran into Meat Loaf in the hall and he said "Greg, can we do another auction after Saturday's main event? I just LOVE those." I said, "Meat, you're in the Ultimate Auction League on Sunday morning, isn't that enough?" He said no way, that there was time open on Saturday afternoon and I should think of adding another event there. At that point I could see how dedicated Meat and so many other guys are to this great hobby and I started thinking of ways to make this great weekend even better.
For now, I'll probably keep the three days of events as is for 2006. I will likely add a $1,250 Mixed Auction League in Las Vegas as there seemed to be a lot of interest in that event after we were done. I think guys enjoyed having the chance to get every single player that was called out, while managing a budget to acquire their players. That auction could expand further in 2006. As for the Ultimate Leagues, I'm afraid I may have to schedule both at the same time until I see a huge groundswell of support to separate those on Sunday like we do with the Friday auctions. And when we offer them in October, it will be first-come, first-served.
Thanks for all your support and who knows what the future holds. If the growth continues, we'll continue to expand to allow everyone a shot at playing each of the contests we offer. Trust me, we won't stand pat when it comes to the NFBC.

AND GOING TO THE GAMES WITH OTHER OWNERS WOULD BUILD YOUR EVENT DRAMATICALLY. As you know, the community you build is the key to lasting success in this business.
I should know... John, as another poster stated, Arizona is one of the five states that we can't take participants from because of their state gambling laws, so obviously hosting an event there wouldn't make sense. As you know, I go to Arizona in October for Ron's Arizona Fall League Symposium and in March for LABR and I agree it is a great place to combine baseball and fantasy baseball. And I'd like nothing better than to rub elbows with my customers at a baseball game. Hopefully that's what we can do by expanding to Florida, if we decide to do that.
But as much trouble as Las Vegas can be during March Madness, there appears to be a lot of interest in keeping one of our three (or four) events there and I agree. I doubt that Las Vegas will ever be taken out of the mix, although hopefully we'll continue to add cities in the future, and maybe one day Phoenix will be one of them (if the state gambling laws change towards fantasy baseball).
