Injuries - I Thought Fantasy Football Starts in September?

Post by Glenneration X » Sat Apr 23, 2011 2:26 am

Not complaining (well, maybe a little), but this year just seems out of whack for the amount of lost games we've seen already to injuries, sickness, personal issues, etc.

For my teams alone, in a week that's already seen new injuries, illnesses, etc. resulting in lost games for Victor, Youk, Hill, Mourneau, Headley, Bradley, et. al, last night Weeks, Nix, & Bradley (again) added to the lost game parade. This in a year where lost games to Hamilton, Zimmerman, Furcal, Raja, Hardy, Hart, Bay, Utley, Gutierrez, Nyger, Dunn, Magglio, Morrow, Latos, Ubaldo, Matusz, Hughes, Cashner, Cuerto, Homer Bailey, Andrew Bailey, Lidge and numerous others who just missed a game or two have tested my benches and FAAB budgets much earlier than should have been expected.

The funny thing is I feel lucky because some of the biggest names that have missed time like Holliday, Mauer, or Longoria I missed out on altogether or had on only one team like Hamilton.

This year's starting to feel more like Fantasy Football than baseball where it's a battle of attrition as much as skill. He who suffers the least injuries ends up on top.

What's my personal take on all the injuries to date? Simple. Baseball players are p*ssies. Right now, we're in the midst of hockey playoff season. I was watching a game last night where a player got decapitated in the 2nd period, stitched his head back on between periods, and came out for the third to score the game winning goal. Why can't we expect the same from our baseball players?

If this keeps up, good luck to everyone managing your rosters. Should be interesting.

This might be the single, most accurate post of the year. Shake it off & get back out there..

It's a different era. Of course, these days there is more money involved. We all admire the older ballplayers. They were hungrier. They worked second jobs in the offseason. There was pride with playing through injuries. You either played and proved to your teammates that you were dedicated or you risked losing your spot.

There's another issue regarding the toughness of ballplayers however, and it starts at home.

You see it at every level from little league and forward. Kids are softer because parents and coaches are puss**s. Leagues, umpires and coaches are worried about getting sued and parents are encouraging kids to wear head gear, mouthpieces, safety vests , etc.

It's a new generation of ballplayer, but I put alot of blame on the adult figures who raise the ballplayer.

Here are some parents notes to the Manager-

Please excuse Milton (again). He has the flu. No, really, this time he does. Don't you even think I'm lying. I think there is something racists going on up in here. Everybody picks on poor Milton. You guys are all bad. I don't even know why I write these excuses, you don't care!

Milton Bradley's Mom

Please excuse our son, Joe.

He is the nicest boy. But, Joe cannot come out and play today, or tomorrow, or the next day. Joe has a bad case of, well, we don't know what Joe has, but it is a bad case.

Mr. and Mrs Mauer

Please excuse Josh. Josh has been listening to bad influences all his life. Well, to top it off, he got some bad advice from you fellas. Thanks alot!

Mr Hamilton

Please excuse Ubaldo. He hurt his fingernail. This is almost as bad as the time he came home with a runny nose. We wouldn't let him go to school for two weeks after that disaster. Once, Ubaldo cut himself, he sat out the school year. Why do such horrible things keep happening to our son?

Mr. and Mrs. Jimenez

Please excuse Carl. No, he's not sick or hurt, just please excuse him.

Mr. and Mrs. Crawford

Please excuse Ian. Oh, don't worry, he's not hurt yet, but we're going on vacation and wanted to make sure our ducks were all in a row.

Mrs. Kinsler

Please excuse Angel.

I won't!!!!

I have him on all my fantasy teams. The way I look at it, he's doing us all a favor by getting hurt right now.

I'll give him a stern talking to while he's gone and hopefully he'll come back and help both of us out!

Mr. Pagan

Please excuse Kendrys. He's a little soft. He let you Americans call him by another name for years before correcting it.

In this part of the world we celebrate by shooting guns. That seems a lot safer than a home plate celebration.

Mr. Morales

And finally...

Dear Mr. Selig,

I am appalled at baseball.

All these years and there is nothing in the works for AAAA ball?

How long has there been just AAA?

50 Years?

60?

Not to have another bridge to the Major leagues is preposterous!! There should be AAAA ball and the players should be well compensated for making it to this level. Hopefully, I will see something in the works soon!!

Signed,

Mrs. Brandon Wood

Baseball players are p*ssies.

I always thought the phrase X is a ***** or X's are pussies meant ***** cats. Like in "don't be afraid of him he's just a ***** cat." So why the asterisk (pussies on steroids perhaps)? Besides being ineffective in masking a potential profanity that asterisk changes the whole meaning of the phrase as I have always known it. Now I have this image of baseball players as pussies instead of pussies.

Ok I get it, the board blocks out ***** with ***** but not pussies so we need to type pus*** with our own asterisk just to make sure we get the context correct and the profanity clear.

That's one team.

The other?

Mauer

Morneau

Morgan

Feliz

Liriano skipping a start(what don't we know?)

Saito

Kuo

Fun, ain't it?

The best part is, not one player was injured going into the season on either team. Every day another player goes down
