I've never been a big fan of batting average as a way to evaluate a hitter, especially with a small sample size.
Same thing with ISO, as it is so dependent on BA. (ISO=SLG-BA)
Ironically, Hosmer's 2011 PCL ISO is artificially depressed because of his artifically inflated PCL 2011 batting average of .439....his BABIP for the year in AAA is well over .500.
Hosmer's ISO from AA ball in 2010, for what its worth, was .303,
still too small of sample to mean much.. only 211 ABs. His BA in AA? "Only" .313.
Granted, Hosmer is just a poke and a hope. But given his age, rapid development to date, and tremendous upside, why not take a chance on him? Especially if you are the not-so-proud owner of a KK or a Daric Barton? What else is out there anywhere close in the FAAB CI marketplace? The next tier down is a long way below Hosmer, imo...

This post may be a little late to the thread but Hosmer went for an average price of $455 in 41 leagues by my count. High bid was $717 and low bid was $275.In addition to the $717 bid, there were 3 bids in the $600-699 range(631,645,656) and 5 in the $551-599 range(551,552,577,577,585) That's a lot of FAAB money exhausted for 41 teams. Hope they get their money's worth from him.

I bid and won him for $411, and I consider myself a cheap person when it comes to FA bucks.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Thanks for doing the math, Rich
That's one way to look at the results. Another way is that he cost just 3% of the money in the FAAB pool. Not so much for possibly the best hitting free agent available this year.

But he cost those who bid on him,on average,45.5% of their FAAB budgets.($455 out of $1000). I agree he may be one of the best,if not the best FA this year. But I still remember opening the FAAB wallet for guys like Brandon Wood and Chris Davis and we all know how that turned out. I'm not equating Hosmer to Wood, but there have been many examples of guys who owned AAA pitchers and never cut it in the majors.

The way Hosmer's come out of the gates, I sure wouldn't mind plugging him into some of my lineups. To those who paid for him last weekend, congrats on the nice 1st week.

Glenn - Have to tell you I am wondering what my score would be tonight in KJ's Keeper league if I would have moved Hosmer up from my Minor League Spot this week and left Pena in my lineup last week

Helton - 6 for 18, 0.3333, one run, one homefun, three RBI, no SB.
Just the first seven possible days, so too early for any real assessment. I just think it would be fun to track Hosmer (break the bank) and Helton (McDonald's Happy Meal) and see who gives satisfaction.

From rotoworld May 8, 5:38 PM
Based on upside alone, Hosmer is very much a must-own in all formats
From rotoworld May 12, 10:38 PM
It appears Hosmer might be ready to be a star from the get-go
Then after his 0-6 performance today...
From Rotoworld May 26, 4:13 PM
No one should have been expecting Hosmer to come up and make a big impact in shallow mixed leagues right away
Duh! Rotodumper at it's best...

maybe the Royals shouldnt of moved Butler out of the 3 hole for the rookie. Way to put unnecessary added pressure on the rookie.
Take him out of the 3 hole and put Butler back there. Hosmer should be hitting 6 or 7 this year.
What will a Hosmer flop mean for Moustakas????

You mean what "would" a Hosmer flop do, and Moustakas is mostly owned, so pretty irrevelant to basically anything.
