What have we learned today?

Grady Sizemore's other knee hurts

(Thanks for being old school, Grady, this obllque thing is getting out of hand)

Ryan Braun has a hurt ankle

(Yes, that was a collective gulp from Braun owners)

Hong Kong Kuo is dl'ed once again

(I know that's not his name, but with that name he sounds a lot more formidable than the guy who goes to the dl as much as we use the rest room)

The Minnesota Twins can score seven runs

(And lose)

The Texas Rangers can score seven runs in three innings

(And still not win)

Gio Gonzalez stats will not be affected by giving up seven runs and neither will his owners

(Who says there are no mulligans in fantasy baseball?)

(Note to self- Do not throw Gio Gonzalez in Texas)

Edinson Volquez has the Francisco Liriano mindset

(If it ain't a no-hitter, then I don't care)

San Diego can score 13 runs

(Brewers fans who thought a playoff team was in sight with Greinke and Marcum forgot that there were six guys in the pen capable of giving up runs (eight) to even the anemic Padres)

The Reds lose to the Astro's in the ninth

(Mike Leake plead guilty to losing the game )

Sorry, man... But really didn't care for the Hong Kong Kuo thing. Perhaps tryin' to be funny, I suppose. But you didn't even come close, dude. Maybe if he was actually from Hong Kong versus Taiwan, then I could appreciate your weak-ass attempt at humor. Big difference between the two - Hong Kong & Taiwan...

I suppose you have a "cute" nickname for each of MLB's Asian players, huh?

Geez...."Lighten up, Francis."

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I suppose you have a "cute" nickname for each of MLB's Asian players, huh? Let's come up with some alternates. Instead of HC Kuo, maybe DL Kuo. Or Hong-Chih Oh-No. Maybe even my personal favorite Hong-Chih TheDodgersSuckAndTheFaithfulLetOutTheirFrustrationsInAllKindsOfWays Kuo.

I suppose you have a "cute" nickname for each of MLB's Asian players, huh? I get your insinuation.

I don't apologize for using Kuo's name. I've had fun with a lot of names. If you're taking offense that I used Kuo's name because he is asian, then that is on you.

I do apologize if you didn't like the humor. If you want to name him Taiwan Kuo and think that is more appropriate because that is where he is from, then go for it. But, I don't think that is a very funny name either.

I thought Hong Kong Kuo gave him more of a professional wrestler type of ring to his name. Hey, it worked for Haystack Calhoun, but you'd probably think that name has a nasty conotation for heavy-set people.

My name is Kenyon. I tell my friends that I should enter the Boston Marathon because Kenyans seem to do so well there, so, maybe I could.

Now, should I be offended because I insinuated that I'm Kenyan, or should Kenyans be upset because they're compared to me? Please tell me.

I guess I just don't get the whole politically correct thing. A name is a name is a name.

If wanting to insinuate that personal feelings go with the having fun with ANY name....Then THAT is on you.

If I criticize Ichiro for never diving after balls or name Matsuzaka, DiceBB, do you take offense?

You shouldn't. In that same conversation, I'll also talk about the 'Chipper effect' or make fun of Mike Leake's name and shoplifting inabilities.

I do know the name of the first asian player to come from another country to play in America, without looking it up, can you?

Should you think less of yourself, because you can't?

I wouldn't. It''s just a name

His name was Masanori Murakami. He came from Japan to pitch for the Giants in 1964. I remember because I was at Candlestick Park the day that he pitched

Right now, I wish I had a time machine to go back to that day in 1964.

I'd much rather be watching Murakami pitch again, then listening to somebody pseudo-defend his ethnicity.

The PC police are out of control these days. It's so frustrating watching everyone walk around on eggshells because we're conditioned to be so sensitive.

I'm against using racuial slurs, condescending innuendos, and negative stereotypes (positive stereotypes are ok in my book). That said, Doughboys did none of that. What's more naturally fitting for a nickname for a guy who's name is Hong-Chih? Hong Kong would work regardless if the guy was Asian or not. Nothing negative was said or implied about Hong Kong, Taiwan, Asia, Asains, or overly sensitive Dodger fans from Korea.

When I read it, I immediately thought of King Kong as in: intimidating. Scary. Was it a good joke? They can't all be winners. Was it offensive? Not unless you're really digging, insecure, or just having a really bad day.

Ya know it's funny, but when I originally read Dan's post a couple days ago I didn't even realize that he had made a word-play with Kuo's name. Quickly reading it, I thought that was his name.....duh.

That said, I don't know Dan that well. I don't know his political leanings, his upbringing, his biases, etc. All I really know about him is he's a helluva message board poster, a pretty damn good fantasy baseball player, and enjoys a cost efficient meal. However in my few years here, I have interacted with him on these boards, in a few PM's, a few E-mails, and in a few league chat rooms. He's always struck me as someone who's probably a really great guy to know. From what I've read on these boards from people who have met him, that's pretty much the case. I'd be really surprised if he was trying to offend anyone. I'm willing to bet that's not what he was trying to do.

I'm not a big fan of PC either, never have been, never will be. I believe it's gone way overboard in society. However, Dodger Blues is obviously a little sensitive to it and it probably has a basis in what he's experienced in the past by some who actually were trying to offend. We probably shouldn't minimize it. It seems like a pretty easy thing to avoid from this point on and probably isn't worth making someone feel bad about it, even if we believe he shouldn't.

Just my thoughts, not trying to offend anyone.

Now back to baseball.....I hate closers!!!!!!!

Doughboys!!! Notice I have dropped the Mr. part I have used these past years. Why? Because I'm steamed and offended too!! How dare you leave off my main squeeze in a thread called "Today". I mean, really...who could be more relevant! I think we "learned" a lot from him AND those that spent the jack on him!

Hmmm, and I was just about to rename one of my teams Emaus and Andy. Looks like I'll have to settle for Moe, Lackey, and Curly. Although Moe, Larry, and Buehrle might pass the censor's too. This is all so confounding................

Dough, you are being too hard on Dodger. I agree with george carlin. Call people what they want to be called. If i meet a woman who wants to be called a motion-impaired, same-gender-oriented italian-american who is difficult to deal with, fine that's what I'll call her. On the other hand, i am perfectly willing to call her a crippled, guinea **** c'nt if she prefers.

So don't give dodger crap for defending his ethnicity - say sorry I didn't mean to offend you and won't let it happen again because people deserve to be treated they way they want to. Now if dodger is a white pc guy trying to defend a nameless asain - Fk'em because again I agree with george that when it comes to these liberal language pc vandals, I agree with their underlying premise: white eoropeans and their descendants are morally unattractive people who are responsible for most of the world's suffering. That part is easy. You would have to be - uh, "visually impaired" not to see it. But like every good impulse in america it has been grotesquely distorted beyond usefulness.

Jules, glad you're going back to another E.

A power letter for you. Evan Longoria still hasn't gotten over the break-up, but at least he can take solace that you've given your heart to an E-bro in Eric Hosmer.

Mike Moustakas has already called dibs on next year.

K, Duke. I think Dough knows form the total context of my post that I had no intention of suggesting he censor himself in the future. My suggestion was just given the, kind, and considerate all around great guy that he appears to be in his posts and which all who (unlike me) know him confirm he is, it would be good of him to cut dodger some slack that's all. And only if dodger is asian, if he's just another ivory tower white pc defender then fk'em.

If you step on someone's foot and they yelp you can either laugh and walk away, berate them for being a crybaby or say sorry. I always opt for saying sorry. That's all.
