Hey everyone, I've been getting e-mails asking that certain players be added to the free-agent list. What will happen is until a player is officially added to a team's 25-man roster he will not be made available for FAAB bidding. I realize there are guys who may even be in line for starting jobs who aren't in the system yet and you may want to bid on them this week, but if they aren't added until late Sunday night or Monday morning or whatever you won't be able to bid on them until next week. However, if they are added before our Sunday FAAB deadline STATS will put them in the system and they will become available. This is essentially the same rule we have in place for minor-league players -- you can't bid on them until they are officially activated on a major league roster.
So to repeat: The only players who will be in each week's free-agent pool are players officially on 25-man rosters. Any questions let us know. Thanks.

What happens if I have say... Ryan Howard,
and I decide to waive him on Sunday. Will he then dissapear from the player pool the following week (since he is headed to AAA)?

Nope, any player who was drafted will remain in the free-agent pool per our rules. Here's what it states:
Free agent pickups during the season will include players who are on major-league rosters at the time or players who were selected on Draft Day and later dropped. Even players who were originally selected on Draft Day, cut and then sent to the minors are eligible during the regular season FAAB bidding period as once they are a part of that league they continue to be part of the free agent listing. If they were good enough to be selected on Draft Day, they are then good enough to remain in that league's free agent pool.

I'm bumping this up and want to again stress that the only players who will be listed among the free agents are players who are officially on 25-man rosters at this time. Until a player is officially added by his team you won't be able to acquire him through the FAAB bidding. So it's possible that you know that Player A is going to be starting but you can't bid on him this week. It all boils down to when each team sets their final Opening Day rosters. When that occurs then those players who are currently missing will be added by STATS to the free-agent pool.
Also, please remember that the FAAB pool shuts down one hour before Sunday's 7 p.m. deadline. No players will be added after that point each week.

Tom,
Thanks for bumping this as it saved me from a repeat post. Is there a list of players that STATS has added to the pool anywhere or do we just have to sift through the whole list every week to pick them out?

Players are added to the free agent list during the season as they are waived from your fellow NFBC teams and when undrafted minor-leaguers get called up to the majors. There is no separate area where you can find the new callups, you just need to follow what's going on and they will be included in your free agent lists.
This Sunday could be the busiest time for all owners to watch those lists as teams will make their final cuts over the weekend. You need to realize that some cuts will be reported on Internet sites well before they are officially made to Major League Baseball and STATS updates the 25-man rosters after they are officially submitted to MLB. So it's possible that you may be looking for a particular player on Sunday that you just KNOW made the team and he won't be listed there. If that happens, that means that roster was submitted too late for STATS to add new players to the free agent pool and the player you were looking for will be available next week in the free agent pool.
No new free agents will be added to the list within one hour of this week's 7 p.m. EST deadline. We ran into a problem like that last year and have decided to freeze all free agent updates each Sunday one hour before the deadline.
Good luck everyone and make sure you set your lineups this week for the Week 0 game and then again on Monday before the Week 1 games. Let's get it on in the race for the $100,000 grand prize.
