Mondays Suck (This One Worse than Most)

Post by Glenneration X » Tue May 17, 2011 3:35 pm

There's always been a stigma to Mondays. The end of the weekend, start of the work week, seriously what's there to like.

However in Fantasy Baseball, Mondays typically represent something altogether different. A fresh lineup, injured players can be pulled, our new FAAB pickups get to be taken out on their 1st test drive, a fresh week, a new start. For Fantasy Baseball, I love Mondays.

This Monday though......SUCKED! Here's a quick recap of a Fantasy Monday from Hell and how it got progressively worse throughout the day.....

Grady Sizemore (on 9 of my teams)

- Day to Day on Sunday to DL'd Monday morning. This was disappointing since he started his return from the DL on fire. Still, the news was early, I had plenty of time prior to the new week to make sure I had coverage just in case the news got worse, and I had plenty of time to adjust my lineup with valid replacements.

David Wright (4 teams)

- Damn!!! The 3B curse continues and hits me hard. Still, at least the news came out early enough to adjust my lineups. The replacements are a far cry from what I can expect from Wright, but at least they aren't zeros.

Rafael Furcal (3 teams)

- Dropped a couple crappy backup infielders for upgrades at other positions on the news Sunday that Furcal might be reactivated as soon as the next day. Of course the news changed to a week later and I'm stuck with my 1st zeros of the week.

Josh Johnson (2 teams)

- The ace of a couple of my teams gets pulled in the 5th inning against a team with no healthy offense left (yes, my Mets) with a contusion. A contusion??? What the hell's wrong with today's athletes?

Cameron Maybin (4 teams)

- Starting everywhere I have him off his red hot last week, he goes out on Monday. More zeros on more teams. Well, at least I can switch him out on Friday for the couple of my teams where I still have a healthy reserve.

Derrick Lee (4 teams)

- More zeros. On a couple teams he's rostered, so is Wright so no replacement even on Friday. Yet more zeros. Also good luck finding TWO replacement corners in the depleted corner FAAB market this weekend.

Andrew Cashner (4 teams)

- My sneaky stash that I've been picking up on the cheap the last couple weeks as news got better on him.....saw the news get suddenly much worse. Ahhh well, at least I have an easy drop to pick up replacements for the other injuries. There's always a silver lining.

The injuries this year have been ridiculous for all of us. Still, this day for my Fantasy teams was just as bad as one day can get. Mondays really do suck, this one worse than most.

Thanks for the condolences Mark. Still, we all suffer injuries, especially this year, the year Fantasy Baseball decided to act like Fantasy Football to cover for the potential lockout. Yesterday was just a sucky day and I need to vent.

As far as Furcal is concerned....posted on Rotowire Saturday.......

Furcal (thumb) might return from the DL as early as Monday, ESPN.com's Dodger Thoughts Blog speculates.

The important part about Furcal's performance Saturday was that he hit right-handed, which was supposed to be the last step in his rehab. If he makes it through Sunday without any hiccups, he could come off the DL Monday.

[/QUOTE]guess it's good i don't read rotowire ;)

IMO most "rotodumper" sites have people pretty low on the totem pole of fantasy baseball success writing their quick 1 minute analysis.

Since Monday, Colby Rasmus cost me a couple games for a couple teams and Travis Hafner (1 team), Vincent Padilla (1 team), Brian Roberts (4 teams), Brandon McCarthy (6 teams) and Josh Johnson (2 teams) all ended up on the DL.

I know everyone's suffering with the rash of injuries this year, but this week's just been ugly for me. I guess it's not only Mondays that suck.

Add 4 teams of Pedro Alvarez to the pain.

How many teams do you have Glenn? Would help put in in better perspective. I know many of them are doing very well. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, most have been competitive with 13 of them somewhere in the top 5 in their respective leagues this morning, one that was middle of the pack in 7th, and 2 that just recently crawled out of the cellar in 14th  . Still, whether doing well, doing mediocre, or sucking ass, not one of those teams weren't hurt in some way, shape, or form last week.

I know I'm not alone as the injury phenomenon this year has just been hard to believe. Still, always feels good to vent a bit.

Be cool & good luck the rest of the year Chad, except in the leagues we share. ;)
