I'm guessing that as of now, Pujols, Tulo, and Bautista may be the top three and not necessarily in that order.
Am I wrong? I think A Gonz bumps Pujols.

I think Ryan Braun is the surest thing out there and was underdrafted this year. Maybe if Fielder walks, you get a little scared about how much he gets pitched around, but's probably in Top 3 for me.

Am I wrong? No, not wrong. In fact, if the draft were right now you could make a legitimate case for him to go #1. Tulo has the positional edge, but Jose may pass Pujols depending on where Al lands next year and what his supporting cast looks like. Reyes and Braun to round out the top 5? Hanley has ground to make up. He's MIA.

So, a top four of Pujols, Tulo, Bautista, Ad Gonzalez, and I'll throw in Braun.
Does that look like the five best fantasy players in baseball?
Hanley, CarGo, Cabrera, and Votto in the next tier with Cano?

Alrighty, we'll say that Longo and CarGo are #'s 10 and 11. We may as well round out this puppy.
How about a bottom four of Teixeira, Kemp, Wright, and Howard.
Prince Fielder can probably find the best vegetarian food in San Francisco, but that wouldn't help him get in the first round.
Signing with the Yankees, Red Sox, or Rangers could. Leaving us with
Pujols
AdGonzalez
Tulo
Bautista
Braun
Hanley
Cabrera
Votto
Cano
Longoria
CarGo
Teixeira
Wright
Kemp
First alternates:
McCutchen
Stubbs
Howard
Fielder
In tiers of five, except for the final tier of four.
If sounding good, I'll try to remember to revisit this thread near the end of June to update. We'll see how much a month can change things.

I think at the end of the day McCutch is bumping Howard into rd 2. I believe folks may desire the 5 cat package over the aging 1b...especially if the 1b position fleshes out w/some impact youngsters..ie Hosmer etc..
Stuff, A Lot of Stuff
Sounds good. We'll have him as #15 and put Howard and Fielder at the top of the second round.

Lets do 14 first rounders, with others knocking at the door, including McCutchen and Stubbs.

The Minnesota Twins have scored ten runs so far today.
Matching the most runs they've scored in a game this year.....

I can't think of an also ran hitter who has done what Bautista has done. Incredible, really. Bautista's just ridiculous. Congrats to all who were smart enough to draft him. I only grabbed him on one team, I wish I had him on every.
Dan, speaking of Koufax's turnaround, another pitcher whose career started as Koufax's was ending had a similar mediocre beginning suddenly morph into domination. The Ryan Express was pretty undistinguished his first handful of seasons until the Mets wisely traded him to California for a shortstop turned 3B whose career was just about finished. Of course, Ryan then immediately transformed his career from a pedestrian spot starter into a pretty unhittable force throwing 300K seasons and no-hitters at us like noone had ever done before. One of the truly bright moments in the history of my Mets.

You pitch to him, you pay. Simple as that. Guy is absolutely incredible.
Stuff, A Lot of Stuff
i know some hitters have made a pretty drastic transformation, but i can't remember any that have done it to the level he has. hope he isn't doping

There is simply no doubt in my mind that Bautista is juicing.
He had almost 1500 AB's in the minors (1471) and hit a total of 52 HR's. That's 1 every 28 AB's.
In the majors, before last year he had 1751 AB's and 59 HR's. That's 1 HR in every 29.6 AB's.
So then he gets a hitting coach that tells him to try to swing harder and hit home runs and he's putting up Ruthian numbers?!? So let me see if I understand this...a guy who before last year was a career .239 hitter with avg. power (at best) is told to swing harder and try to hit the ball out of the park. What happens? He hits .277 (2010&2011) with a HR every 9.9 AB's?!?!?
So if you count his minor league/major league numbers thru 2009 he had over 3200 AB's and hit 111 HR's. In just 697 AB's he hits 70 HR's? And we are to believe it all stems from a genius hitting coach telling him to swing harder. Makes sense to me.
Oh here's one more stat...his current slugging % (.797) is 40 points higher than his career best OPS prior to 2010. That's right he is SLUGGING 40 points higher than his OPS was in his best year in the majors.
For those of you that have him on your fantasy team congrats to you.
My hope is somebody talks sooner rather than later and gets him suspended and embarrassed. I didn't enjoy when McGwire, Bonds and Sosa made a joke of the game and this smells just like that.
If the steroid era taught baseball anything hopefully it taught them that if it seems unbelievable IT IS!!!!
UGH! Watching the Marlins/Rays game and they just said Bautista hit 2 more bombs today. Unreal and shameful!

UGH! Watching the Marlins/Rays game and they just said Bautista hit 2 more bombs today. Unreal and shameful! Sorry but i have to disagree. Buatista Does not look like McGwire, Canseco, Barady Anderson Bonds, and all the other 400 juicers. He is of average build, not thick, no big neck, not big arms. I say its talent and lighting quick bat speed, hard work and finally getting enough experiance. I'll bet he is a student of the game too. With testing the way it is now, no one is juicing, unless they have figured out some other form of enhancement. Bautista deserves the credit!!!

Years ago we were told the parks are smaller, the ball is juiced, the pitching is just no good anymore, the bats are much stronger and probably a few phoney reasons I'm forgetting.
