Where's MLB's testing credibility at this point? How do they explain it taking them 20 months to catch the most obvious candidate for PEDs? After finally gaining some level of public trust again, how to explain their modern testng is lagging behind the development and use of new PEDs?
Either Bautista's found somethIng undetectable or MLB has other reasons for protecting their new superstar/themselves. Or he's just that good.

During season play (beginning with Spring Training through the end of the Regular Season), all players will be randomly selected for testing at unannounced times for steroids once. The office of the Commissioner has the right during the season to administer additional random testing at unannounced times for steroids. The number of tests and the timing and schedule of these tests is determined by HPAC, and players are subject to any number of additional tests during the regular season.
A. A four-member Health Policy Advisory Committee (HPAC). The Commissioner's Office and the MLBPA each appoint two members, a lawyer and a doctor with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of substance abuse. If the HPAC deadlocks 2-2 on an issue, the two doctors on the Committee jointly appoint a third doctor to cast the deciding vote. Members of the HPAC serve indefinite terms and can be removed at any time by the party which appointed them, so they're not likely to stray too far from the wishes of their sponsors.
Let's see. "Randomly", "subject to", "determined by the HPAC". Sounds to me like there's a good chance he hasn't even been tested yet.

Best pitcher of all-time for Koufax?
Yes.
My criteria being, that if my family would live or die depending on a pitchers ability to win a game against any given team, I would take Koufax in his prime.
Statistics can make better cases for other pitchers, but I'll take Koufax. Top 5 "life on the line, in their primes"
Koufax
The Big Unit
Pedro
Halladay
Maddux
Just throwing them out there. Randy Johnson and Pedro Martinez were both disgustingly dominant over a 5 year stretch at the height of the steroid era. How great would they have been in any other era, or were they in on it too?
You can trust Halladay to go 9 on any given night. If you needed a win to live, he's a good candidate to make sure no bullpen kills you.
Maddux might be the smartest pitcher ever to live. If he couldn't pitch you to a win, he'd have a MacGyver backup up plan for you. [/QUOTE]Not to be too much of a homey, but game on the line, Smoltz has to be on the list.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Lighting fast batspeed? Yea, that's the ticket. "Bonds on steroids hit .328, .370, .341, and .362.
Sosa on steroids hit .320 and .328.
Brady Anderson's career BA was .256. On steroids, he hit .297.
From 1992-2000, Brett Boone hit .255. From 2001-2003, he hit .301 (.331 in 2001)."
"The main reason steroids helps people isn't because it "makes them stronger," but because it helps muscles recover faster. If your muscles aren't sore and fatigued, you will maintain a faster bat speed which could greatly improve your batting average. That faster bat speed can help you catch up to fastballs you'd usually foul off, and also give you more time to recognize a breaking pitch"

I thought they didn't have a test for HGH yet.
It's a shame, but due to what occurred during the '90's, there will always be suspicion when looking at players who turn it around to the levels we've seen from Bautista.

With remnants from the steroid era still present, and Bautista going from Jimmy Olsen to SuperMan, of course there will be arguments whether he does or doesn't.
He's a monster at the plate. But, where I have taken notice of him even more is his play in the outfield. His arm has become stronger and more accurate than both Markakis and Ichiro.
Is this a sign that he is juiced?
I don't know.
I have always thought of him as a run of the mill fielder, whether at 3b or in right field before last year. Now, he is the best right fielder in baseball.
I haven't heard him talk about his defense, and reporters do not ask him about it, but the parallel is there.
Also, before last year, his stolen base numbers were mostly zeroes, ones, and two's, with a four and six thrown in. Last year, he stole nine bases and it looks like he will top that number this year.
I remember that steroids made Sosa's legs look bulky and cumbersome. I remembered how thin and fast he was as a kid playing with the Rangers. Known then, more for his speed than power.
What does all this mean?
Nothing.
Bautista has turned around EVERY facet of his game. Even the speed gene, which just hasn't happened in any sport as we enter our thirties.
I'd like to believe that he is doing it the right way and is having a Walter Mitty experience.
At the same time, if news came down that he was in line for a suspension, it would be met with as much surprise as Manny writing a 'tell all' book.

Following up on the Bautista post.
I find it amusing that we, as fantasy baseball players NEED a reason for a player to far excel over past numbers as Bautista has done.
Most Toronto, and most baseball fans just enjoy the ride.
They watch Bautista and can revel in all the attributes he has, without question. We can too, but we are tormented as to why.
Why is he the best player in baseball, and how did it happen so fast?
I miss the naivety.
The typical fan does not know what will happen with each pitch, while we have odds in our head on what will happen next for just about every situation.
The hometown fan has every reason to root Mark Reynolds on, even though down 0-2 in the count with Verlander throwing.
We know the probable outcome. To them, everything is still 50-50.
We will never get that back

We will never get that back Well said! I also suspect that those here that bash Bautista, probaly don't have him on any of thier Fantasy Teams. As for bashing in general, why does it seem that those in society feel the need to bash anyone, especially when they dont know them and they have not done anything wrong. I would be dissapointed if Bautista was using (which i don't believe he is) but I hope he does become the poster player for how to do it right! I watched a interview with him yesterday, he not only is well spoken, but very humble, unlike past dopers like Bonds, Sosa, Palmiero, Manny...

There is no test for growth hormone (GH) so the new Fat Toad of the Yankees is safe for now.
They say chicks dig the long ball, but the guys are right there drooling next to them. Fatolo is throwing 96 again. He'll turn 38 in 2 days. His doctors tout the stem cell treatments he's had for his remarkable comeback. In the NYT article they also point out that most times these stem cell treatments involve GH. His doctors deny the use of GH for Colon. Shocking.
Anybody been talking about Colon around here? Anywhere? Bueller?
My original point was JB is almost certainly a marked man. He said in an interview on the mlb network that he's already been tested a few times this yr. I've not watched him THAT closely to see his arm in the OF. If Dan thinks he's better than Ichiro I'm sorry, but I gotta see that w/ my own eyes.
Ichiro is spiderman in a baseball uniform.
JB's transformation from journeyman to franchise player has been nothing short of amazing. His head doesn't look 3X it's size and he hasn't gained 30-40 lbs of muscle. I don't know who Walter Mitty is, but I want to believe in JB too. I want to...but I ain't that naive anymore.
At this point if we found out he was shooting up steroids/stem cells/GH/baby powder/crack.......NOTHING would surprise me.
I hope he's clean.
