With Memorial Day weekend upon us, we're nearing the Super 2 threshold many teams utilize as the timeframe they'll first promote their most prized prospects. Last year saw the promotion of Strasburg, Stanton, Posey, Neil Walker, Tabata, Pedro Alvarez, Carlos Santana, Bumgarner, Travis Wood, and others all called up within a few weeks of this date.
This year will see its own crop of future studs. With Hosmer, Tehahran, Duffy, Sands, and Dominic Brown having already gotten the call, which of the following are you saving your FAAB for?
Desmond Jennings - Drafted in many leagues, I'm sure he'll be available on a few when the callup comes. Will likely end the Sam Fuld era and provide an immediate dose of speed.
Mike Moustakis - Also likely drafted in many leagues, I can't see the Wilson Betimet/Mike Aviles/Chris Getz infield combo being too much of a deterrant to his callup. Does he bring Hosmer impact or just Hosmer hype?
Dustin Ackley - He may be available on a waiver wire or two already as he's been drafted & dropped in several leagues. How much longer does Seattle continue to trot either Wilson or Kennedy out there while hoping to continue contending?
Anthony Rizzo - The hot prospect likely available for the most leagues, SD's anemic offense could use a power bat. Absolutely raking in the minors, I don't see Hawpe as the answer for much longer.
Brett Lawrie - Another prospect likely available for many leagues, he also will be eligible at a position that was already scarce even before being devastated by injuries. Encarnacion or Nix won't hold him back, his defense might.
Jesus Montero - If it weren't the Yankees, I'd be surer that his team would find a way to get his bat in their lineup. Who knows when his callup comes, but when it does, this kid can hit.
Others that may force a callup sooner than later are Lonnie, Chisenhall, Yonder Alonso, Paul Goldschmidt, Kyle Gibson amongst many others.
Should be a fun & interesting few weeks.
