For the record, my preference is for once a week moves for all players.

My suggestion was not so much something I prefer but a compromise/solution addressing the discussed issues.

Heck, I would eliminate reserve lists altogether if I could :D

Glenn: I appreciate your view and (obviously) fully support people using as many 2 start pitchers as possible because that's the same rule we play with all year. But it's not even close to the same thing we're seeing here. Not even close. There's a finite number of 2 start pitchers available in the FA pool each week. You MIGHT end up with 5 or 6 pitchers not on teams that are getting 2 starts this time of year, and they generally will suck. You won't get all of them in FAAB bidding because you're competing against everyone else trying who is to do the same thing. You might also have to choose between a 2 start crap pitcher and 1 start good pitcher, but that strategic decision is irrelevant right now. You can start them all with the Friday rule.

And the fact that other contest change the rules at the end is irrelevant to me.

I've talked about this too much already. I think Todd laid out some good ideas that should be seriously considered. I think Gregg and Tom need to decide where they want the balance to be between rewarding a player who puts together an excellent team and rewarding a player that excels at the "gaming" of fantasy baseball. I think the rule as currently constituted sucks. I think Scarlett Johannsen has a great ass.

Sounds like we need a Greg poll as to who thinks Scarlett's ass is...

I mean as to whether pitchers should be a once a week change for 24 weeks or 26 weeks.

I'm the kind of guy who doesn't like the DH.

Or Wildcard teams.

Didn't think I would like this end-of-the year pitcher switch rule either....

Turns out, I'm enjoying it. Suprise. Must be because I'm the Chaser, not the Chasee.

Doesn't really matter, because I'm going to still love playing the NFBC no matter which way Greg goes. Which I suspect will be to dump the rule next year.

Now, as far as Scarlett is concerned, if she goes, I'm going to put my foot down, pull a Walla and leave too! I'd follow her anywhere.

Juan Carlos Oviedo is the only pitcher that has been a surprise no-show and his name isn't on one of our rosters. . Thanks for writing this. I am spending a lot more time streaming than I am replacing pitchers with strange usage patterns.

How about this example? Cliff Lee had his start pushed back to Monday. Now, under regular rules, I'd have started him and been happy with my one start at the beginning of the week. Under new rules I get the one start but also get to stream for him. At least with this example you can't say the rule is about replacing rather than streaming.
Chance favors the prepared mind.

I mean as to whether pitchers should be a once a week change for 24 weeks or 26 weeks. No Greg poll needed. No chance ever to get everyone to agree on anything. No chance to ever take the luck factor out of September moves, whether it be a September DL rule or a two-week pitcher's rule. The loudest are not always the rightest. That being said, 2012's rules are already written and looking forward to getting those on the updated web site by end of World Series or around there.

Pitchers won't have any advantages in 2012, as I'm sure you all have already suspected. We have a great, great game here with solid rules. Tom and I have tried as best we can to take luck out of the equation and to make sure the best teams are rewarded accordingly. At times we try rules to provide more skill to the equation. I still to this day believe the September DL rule did that in 2008, but sometimes it's best not to add too much to the game. We won't in 2012.

No poll needed. Executive decisions sometimes are made when the executive takes charge. I'm taking charge here for 2012. ;) Finish strong here in 2011 and we look forward to rewarding all of you winners in quick fashion. What a great, great, great NFBC/MLB season and I'm already looking forward to 2012.

Here again is my issue with your argument. Just because someone is using this rule to their advantage by gaining extra starts, does not at all mean that they are "gaming" fantasy baseball. They are simply utilizing the rules to the best of their ability.

Furthermore, and more importantly, your argument implies that the people employing this strategy haven't drafted or put together excellent teams. That couldn't be further from the truth in some cases.

Personally, I think that I built an excellent team, and one that has been highly competitive all season. Yet, I still see an advantage towards picking up a few extra starts over these last 2.5 weeks. I've built up a very solid base in my pitching ratios, and already lead my league in k's by a considerable margin. Needing extra wins, this is one way for me to attack that category.

Does this mean that I am somehow "gaming" the system? I think that this is actually rewarding me for constructing such a good pitching staff that I can afford to take on the added risk to my ratios.

The answer is simple.....go back to once weekly moves ,BUT allow us to activate and disable all players as they happen . These moves could be made on a daily basis all year long whenever a player is placed on OR activated from the DL.

Starting SEPT 1 if players are not put on the dl, have a rule whereby you or Tom can make this decision. Its not an arbitrary thing , but when a MLB team says their player is out for the year whether or not he is officially put on the DL, he is out and can be replaced anytime prior to the days games..

The argument has always been that you are forcing US to pay attention to our teams every day. Probably, 99% of us know when we have a DL situation or someone activated from the DL. Allowing us to make these moves accordingly take more of the luck factor out of the equation and gives the opportunity to get the most out of our players by having them available for more games to us than is currently the situation.

I have asked you to consider this possibility in the past . This may need some tweaking, but I still think its the best solution .
No need to take it personally. Everyone should use whatever the rules are to their advantage. However, I'm not sure why there is a rule that allows you or me to make up for Wins and Ks the last two weeks in a different way than the first 25. Why don't we adopt the Friday rule for odd-numbered weeks? Or months that end Rs and Ys? Or in May and July only? I understand the reasoning behind the rule, but the unintended consequences of it have rendered it arbitrary.
Actually with a bit more thought, the problem with this suggestion is that it returns the problem of the player who is day to day for a week but is never placed on the DL. To me, that's slow torture.

That will always be a problem no matter what. At worst you would miss 7 days of action from a player if he is in your line up and never plays for the entire week. Its probably rare that this happens for the entire week though.

With the ability to make DL moves anytime and activate players from the DL at anytime, you will gain probably more stats from your key players. Its just my opinion, but I think its the best solution available.

this streaming of pitchers really hurts a person that can lose ground on whip and saves .For the person with a crappy era and whip and is in the middle or bottom in saves ,now has everything to gain.especially if the few categories that person is trying to make up are against the people who havent gave up but arent going to put extra effort into their lineup and free agent pick-ups.maybe 2 or 3 of the guys in the bottom half of the league are the ones that are giving up the points to the people changing out their pitchers.I happen to be one of the teams with more to lose than gain.Maybe i am just bias because it is being used for the wrong reasons .I am 2nd in saves and 2nd in k's but 5th in wins and era. This is an oc couldn't imagine how I would feel if it were for the bigger money leagues.Good luck to all.

I just don't think I'm that interested in playing such a close contest using key guys I draft or pick up in FAAB along the way for 140+ games and then getting to the end to see my guys play part-time because their team has locked the division down, or get shutdown because their team is out of it, then I'm depending on guys that wouldn't see the active roster to save their life if it weren't for the roster expansion. The last 2-3 weeks seem to involve much more luck than skill imo...especially with the streaming.

The worst part is that the last two weeks of this fantasy contest have actually ruined my enjoying these WC races and that sucks. I know the rules are already written, but there's no more reason to play the last 10 days of the fantasy baseball season than there is to play Week 17 in the NFL.

The major difference is in football, week 17 would be a stand-alone week to decide the championship in home leagues and a large portion of a playoff sprint that uses 3 or 4 weeks like the NFFC. In baseball, it is just about 5% of the year's worth of stats and even less when you consider that not all 23 of your players are impacted.

Sure, a few more guys are shut down, etc., but I think it just sticks out more because it is the last week or so and we forget all the stuff that happened similarly in the previous 25 weeks.

Shutting down early to help mitigate bad luck also screws those that had players have a great last week -- ask Ellsbury's owners how they would like it if we ended already.
