Time to pick another top hitter. I would have taken ARod at 3b not ss , but this makes this league fun. I am not good at posting pictures or links and I want to pick quickly so here goes. 1930 Chuck Klein 648ab 250h 40hr 158r 170rbi 4sb .386avg

Chuck Klein! As a Phillies fan I love that pick. Klein had one of the best 5 year stretches in baseball history from 1929 through 1933. Over 200 hits in each season with 1930 being his best overall year.

Here's the thought process fellas - sorry for the delay

We went ARod at SS because of what we perceive as a higher advantage at SS than 3B - 10 runs and 20 rbi's not enough to lean us toward 3b - the other categories almost identical - a little higher avg for a little less steals. Time will tell if it was the proper decision.

It wasn't a position decision, but Gehrig was the same - higher overall numbers were selected across the board with a sacrifice to average. To echo some previous thoughts, that one of the aspects that makes this fun.

I had the 1927 and 1931 lou gehrig seasons rated equal. I also had the ARod seasons close. This make this contest fun and also tougher than anyone might believe.

I’ve gone back and forth on this pick. In round one 1 picked Sandy Koufax and I considered doubling up with another pitcher in this round, but instead I’m going to take a hitter.

I really could have gone with any one of 5 or six guys here, but in the end I thought it would be best to make my play with runs and rbi……..oh! and a .381 avg doesn’t hurt either.

The 1930 World Series winning Philadelphia Athletics had one of the best 3/4/5 combinations ever put together for one season. We’ve already seen the number five hitter go with Jimmie Foxx, I’m going to take the clean-up hitter in that lineup.

I'll catch up with some analysis later, but long story short is I quantified a positional adjustment into my rankings and promised myself I would not "double dip" and jump a so-called scarce guy up any more than I already have. Believe it or not, Piazza was the next highest ranked guy on my hitter list so I had no qualms about taking him.

Coming into this draft, my initial thinking was that the guy with the first pick would have the best chance of winning. I mean, we are all working with known stats, and so the owner with the first pick would get the “best” player, owner number two would get the second best, and so on….

But two things have changed my mind about that;

The first is the blind rounds. I know a couple of people might not like them, but they will add a certain level of “uncertainty” to the contest. When it’s all said and done, 1 or 2 owners may claim that the blind rounds cost them the league title, and they’ll probably be right. But then again, the two owners at the top of the standings will say that we all played under the same rules and that they just figured it out the best. And they will be right.

And the second thing that changed my mind about the way the league will play out is each individual owners rankings. We may all know what the stats are, but they all mean something just a little different to each one of us. Sure, I bet all of our rankings are similar, but they are not the same.

As an example, in round 1 ToddZ picked Ty Cobb with the eighth pick just in front of me. If I had been there I would not have picked Cobb because he wasn’t the best guy on my list. Of course this also makes me very nervous because Todd speaks Numerish and I don’t, so if he ranks Cobb that high maybe I should be changing my rankings.

Anyway, what I’m saying is, I now think that any one of the 15 of us has a chance to win this thing.
