You really can not go wrong with a combo of Walter Johnson and Joe Wood as your first two picks. He was the one pitcher I considered taking over a hitter with my last pick. What numbers by some of the pitchers of the 1900 to 1915 era.

couple things i've been thinking about...

*how MANY teams are 'secretly' punting sb?

*if the avg team batting average is around .332 (ie 7.5 league points), how do owners expect to compete (in that category) when their first and/or second batter selected hit less than .332? if you need to make up avg late, most of the players severely hurt you in other categories

*when is the next pick coming? :D

Sorry for the delay; pick caught me between work and getting home. Will write more later, but to get the pick posted before dinner, here it is....

2.13- George Sisler (1B) 1920.

BA- .407

Runs- 137

HR- 19 (pathetic)

RBI- 122

SB- 42

Edited to add the link. Appears, I may not have picked his best season.

SB- 42 when the draft first started, i thought sisler would be one of the top hitters sitting there at the end of the first. i kind of lucked out with some guys i had rated higher being there, but certainly a VERY good pick where u got him. that avg will allow you to go after the big hr/low avg players that other owners won't be able to touch

Gekko- sounds like we valued Sisler about the same. It is just tough to take the James Loney of all-time greats for your 1st baseman in the 2nd round.

[/QUOTE]yes, i value batting average quite a bit. IMO it is incredibly tough to make up. when i first got my draft pick, i actually had sisler penciled and at 15/16 and i was 'hoping' he would drop to me.

Shawn called and wants Jack Coombs, 1910

I'll call him back after the turn for his 3rd rounder.

FWIW, my number is 508-816-5424 and I can post your picks this week if you need updates, are away from the PC, etc.

Next week I will be at the Shandler-fest.

Was really hoping that George Sisler would fall to us here, but can't be too upset at the consolation prize.

Babe Herman, OF, 1930 Brooklyn Robins

.

.393 AVG (241/614) / 143 Runs / 35 HR / 130 RBI / 18 SB

The greatest athlete at Babe Herman's and Babe Ruth's time may have been Babe Didrikson Zaharias.

If I was good at links, I'd do one....

the only way i know how to combat so many owners taking so many pitchers early is to chop them at the knees and keep pounding the hitters.
