Well since they didn't begin awarding the Cy Young until 1956 and the guy with the 2nd most wins accumulated all his victories prior to '56, my answer would be Walter Johnson with his 417.

The numbers are so amazing for all these guys. Russel takes Koufax and McLain and the combined 1.99 ERA is good for just 6 league points, and the only guys with less haven't even picked a pitcher yet!... A .356 BA is mid-pack at 8 points. I was considering CY, but caught myself thinking "great wins... but he's gonna balloon my ERA and WHIP and he's rotten in k's and didn't even get a save!"... just crazy. So now we see if the next few teams (which have gone 8-2 hitters over pitchers so far) will continue taking hitters or finally snag some of the remaining top pitchers. Hmmmmmmm...

Don't try to predict who will take hitters or pitchers. I have failed miserably throughout this draft so far. I will always take the top player(hitter or pitcher) according to my rankings. Most of our rankings seem similar. There have been a couple of hitters and pitchers taken earlier than I have ranked. I am ok with this because of my statement above. Remember what I said earlier. There are 345 first round picks in this draft. All players would have returned first round value in the year you picked if there were fantasy baseball starting in 1901 :

The Cy Young career wins and innings pitched will never be touched. In a sport where stats are held in such great regard most of his stats are just plain amazing when you start going through them.
The 747 complete games is probably untouchable as well.

My prior post wasn't a crack on Russel by any means. Both those guys were guys I'd love to have on my team. Just a head-shaking moment looking at the awesome numbers.
So what's the guess at # of points that will win this thing? 100? Maybe a little less?
Sounds like many of you are using (or have developed your own) ranking software/formulas. Interesting. Do they automatically update based on who has already been selected? Or do you tweak the formulas manually? Sounds like you have access to player databases as well. I'm beginning to feel like I've brought a squirt-gun (my hand-compiled excel spreadsheet) to a tank battle!

I believe 95 points will take first and no owner less than 80 points. Just my humble opinion. I downloaded stats from fangraphs.com into excel and remove the players as they are picked. The players left move up automatically. My pick #12 will come around 6:00pm ct. Have to do a couple of things.

My answer is always Cy Young's 511 career wins. With the 300 game winner passing for all intents and purposes with the likes of Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and Roger Clemens (unless someone thinks Moyer has the gas for 33 more wins), no one will ever come close to touching Young.
Picking nits. but since Cy Young also leads in losses, you can argue that the record never broken would be decisions -- or innings pitched. But personally, I will take the 749 complete games.
My favorite Cy Young related bar question is name the pitcher with the most career wins that never won the Cy Young award.
Young averaged over 14 losses per season- what a bum

I knew what you meant.
The one bad thing about this format and have discussions about it as we go along is that I feel like I can’t be completely free in talking about strategy. Obviously I have reasons for taking McLain in the third round and I know you guys aren’t dumb, but that doesn’t mean I want to tell you whom I’m targeting in the next couple rounds and whether I think they will be available. But I did have to take a look at the teams behind me and at least make a guess about their picks being hitter or pitcher.

my first comment in this wonderful thread.
Unless I am mistaken, isn't 80 points average? If no one is under 80 but 95 will win, I must assume i missed the most recent update in "new math".

I want to win, and if I get 120 points so be it
But I would rather win by 1 point over second place and 2 points over third.
But I gotta admit, playing against a HOF member and somebody that speaks Numerish in a game that is strictly about numbers, I'll take a win anyway I can get it.

Name your stakes! I'll give you 10-1 odds on the second part of your statement that no owner will have less than 80 points!!

115+ points?
Wow. I gotta bet "no way" on that.
105 maybe, but that's going to take masterful strategy and taking advantage of a few major mistakes by the rest of us.
And yeah, the 15-way tie at 80 points would be wild too!

needless to say, it's looking hitter/hitter again for me! keep the pressure on you guys hoarding pitchers (both SP/RP).
