Thoughts about the draft.... and Gekko's observations--

Well, I said it before we even started picking players that the first few guys would have a huge advantage. Not only do you get crazy good stats with Walsh, Mathewson, and Johnson, but you get 350-450 innings worth of crazy good stats and 35+ wins. Alexander and Chesbro are close, but definitely 2nd tier. All those innings is equal to getting 1000 AB's from your best hitter. Starting in 1920 or later would be much more balanced and give everybody an equal shot at winning. JMHO

Agree that the first few picks have a big edge, but it would be a shame to eliminate those years and those players. 3RR is a better solution, and it adds a lot to one's KDS decisions!

Maybe so, but it's a much closer decision!

Mark - I live in Central NJ and the traffic light is out on the major highway - until that comes back, I won't have power - just like the hurricane.

Fellas - I know the weekends are when we hope to get the most rounds in, but this is the only pick I can make tonight. I can't get a hold of my friend, so I can only think his power is out too. I'm assuming we'll be up tomorrow morning/afternoon, and I'll try to make a pick as soon as I can.

Our pick - Trevor Hoffman 1998

time to keep the hit parade going for this pick. then i'll need some time to make my next pic. i'm still working in the new pitching stats. i might have to throw up in my mouth and take a stink'n pitcher

by the sounds of it though, the draft will stop after nevedaman picks.

I am 100 percent down to do a draft like this again. I would do it either after next season or right after this one or whenever. So you can count me in on it.

I do think that 3RR is something we would have to do. I am not for starting after 1920 although if that was what was decided I would be up for that as well. I still think even with 3RR that I would still try for those top picks but it does close the gap a ton.

I think that after doing a draft like this and then getting one of those top pitchers in the next draft you would have a monster advantage. As for this draft I am not convinced that the winner will come from one of those slots, with this being the first time doing this I can see things going a different way.

One of the guys we had on our radar before the draft even started. Nice selection. Not bad for a #2.

Not for nothing, but if we are so concerned with how the draft order impacts the results, I can think of a way to mitigate that.....

and wih biggio and stephens off the board, those remaining MI slots are close to being negative value!!!

Seems like you don't have much concern for wins.
